  1. 11. Regulation of B cell development by antigen receptors

    Author : Jannek Hauser; Thomas Grundström; Yuan Zhuang; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : calcium; calmodulin; e-proteins; E2A; B cell development; antigen receptor signaling; surrogate light chains; RAG; allelic exclusion; V D J recombination; AID; negative feedback regulation; plasma cell differentiation;

    Abstract : The developmental processes of lymphopoiesis generate mature B lymphocytes from hematopoietic stem cells through increasingly restricted intermediates. Networks of transcription factors regulate these cell fate choices and are composed of both ubiquitously expressed and B lineage-specific factors. READ MORE

  2. 12. MHC and genomic diversity in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)

    Author : Jakob Lohm; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; nucleotide diversity; isolation-by-distance; DGGE; AFLP; furunculosis; disease resistance; Arctic charr; brown trout; Atlantic salmon; population genetics; genetic variation; Mhc class IIB; Animal ecology;

    Abstract : In this thesis I present studies concerning genomic diversity and genetic heterogeneity as well as the evolution and maintenance of genetic variation at a specific immune defence gene in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar, L.). READ MORE

  3. 13. Regulation of gut IgA induction by helper T cells

    Author : Inta Gribonika; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosal immunology; secretory IgA; T regulatory cells; T follicular helper cells; Th17 cells; Peyer s patches; IgA class-switch recombination; germinal centers;

    Abstract : The gut is the largest lymphoid organ in the body. Due to intense and constant exposure to the outside world, it also functions as the most important portal of entry for many pathogens. READ MORE

  4. 14. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation

    Author : Anna Löfdahl; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serotonin 5HT ; Serotonin class 2 receptor antagonist; Fibroblast; Pulmonary fibrosis; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Abstract : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis,there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 5. 15. Immunoecology of the Great Snipe (Gallinago media) : Mate Choice, MHC Variation, and Humoral Immunocompetence in a Lekking Bird

    Author : Robert Ekblom; Jacob Höglund; Mats Grahn; Scott V. Edwards; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Behaviour; Major histocompatibility complex class II B; Sexual selection; Evolution; Leks; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : At the centre of the vertebrate immune system is a group of proteins called MHC (major histocompatibility complex) molecules. These function in self – non self recognition and activation of the immune defence against intruding parasites and pathogens. READ MORE
