  3. 23. Making Maps and Keeping Logs : Quantum Gravity from Classical Viewpoints

    Author : Niklas Johansson; Ulf Danielsson; Jan de Boer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; String theory; black holes in string theory; Calabi-Yau geometry; flux compactifications; three-dimensional gravity; Mathematical physics; Matematisk fysik; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores three different aspects of quantum gravity. First we study D3-brane black holes in Calabi-Yau compactifications of type IIB string theory. Using the OSV conjecture and a relation between topological strings and matrix models we show that some black holes have a matrix model description. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the nature of self-assembly in low-density condensed matter : A classical molecular dynamics approach

    Author : Alfredo Metere; Peter Oleynikov; Anatoly Belonoshko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : The study of the physics of self-assembly in low-density condensed matter is an extremely interesting, mostly unexplored field of scientific research. The contribution reported in this thesis explains how this problem can be addressed using molecular dynamics simulation of 3D systems composed by simple, identical particles, interacting via a spherically symmetric pair potential, which belongs to the class of Dzugutov potentials. 5. 25. Crucifixion in Antiquity : An Inquiry into the Background of the New Testament Terminology of Crucifixion

    Author : Gunnar Samuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : This study investigates the philological aspects of how ancient Greek, Latin and Hebrew/Aramaic texts, including the New Testament, depict the practice of punishment by crucifixion. A survey of the ancient text material shows that there has been a too narrow view of the “crucifixion” terminology. READ MORE
