1. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma
Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 2. Molecular Analysis of Normal Human Skin and Basal Cell Carcinoma Using Microdissection Based Methods
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to gain further insight into the biology of normal human skin and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Morphology in combination with microdissection was used as primary tool for sampling. READ MORE

3. DNA methylation as a prognostic marker in clear cell Renal Cell Carcinoma
Abstract : Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common type of renal cell carcinoma worldwide. Metastatic ccRCC is correlated to poor prognosis whereas non-metastatic disease has a 5-year survival rate up to 90%. READ MORE

4. HIF-dependent Signaling Pathways in Cancer
Abstract : The cellular response to hypoxia, primarily orchestrated by hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs; mainly HIF-1α and HIF-2α), is at the center of several signaling pathways conferring aggressive tumor behavior. HIFs may be crucially involved in tumor initiation, as seen in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, as well as maintenance of resistance cancer stem cell phenotypes, as observed in glioma. READ MORE

5. Collagen of the extracellular matrix. Functional and structural studies
Abstract : The cancer microenvironment has been attracting increasing attention as the realization of its importance for both disease treatment and malignant progression. Here the aim was to elucidate some of the effects and mechanisms of the tumor microenvironment related to the extracellular matrix (ECM). READ MORE
