  1. 16. The Influence of Climate and Public Health Interventions on Aedes Vectors and Dengue in Sri Lanka

    Author : Prasad Liyanage; Joacim Rocklöv; Yesim Tozan; Hasitha Tissera; Flemming Konradsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dengue; weather; climate; El Niño; Aedes vector indices; human mobility; vector control; cost-effectiveness analysis; Sri Lanka; Kalutara.;

    Abstract : Introduction: Dengue, a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitos, flourishes in urban tropical environments by a complex process. Interactions among susceptible humans, dengue viruses, and Aedes mosquitoes determine dengue transmission patterns, and these interactions are modified by driving factors related to weather, the environment, and human behaviour, including mobility. 2. 17. Stochastic Invariance and Aperiodic Control for Uncertain Constrained Systems

    Author : Yulong Gao; Karl H. Johansson; Alessandro Abate; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; controlled invariant set; stochastic system; constraint; uncertainty; reachable set; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Uncertainties and constraints are present in most control systems. For example, robot motion planning and building climate regulation can be modeled as uncertain constrained systems. In this thesis, we develop mathematical and computational tools to analyze and synthesize controllers for such systems. READ MORE

  3. 18. Fluxes and Mixing Processes in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Erik Olof Nilsson; Anna Rutgersson; Harm Jonker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Waves; Growing sea; Swell; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Mixing; Momentum flux; Wind stress; Flux attenuation; Sensor separation; Large eddy simulation; Multiresolution analysis; Coupling; Wave model; Climate model; Wave age; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Atmospheric models are strongly dependent on the turbulent exchange of momentum, sensible heat and moisture (latent heat) at the surface. Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface and understanding the processes that control air-sea exchange is of great importance in order to predict weather and climate. READ MORE

  4. 19. External Growth Control of Baltic Sea Cyanobacteria

    Author : Anna Zakrisson; Ulf Larsson; Jakob Walve; Elena Gorokhova; Sanna Suikkanen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; cyanobacteria; nitrogen fixation; heterocysts; Aphanizomenon; Nodularia; water treatment; Himmerfjärden; sewage; climate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : In the Himmerfjärden Bay a large excess of nitrogen over phosphorus in the discharge from a large sewage treatment plant (STP) has suppressed growth of diazotrophic cyanobacteria in its inner parts. Implementation of nitrogen removal in the STP in 1997 drastically reduced nitrogen load and triggered growth of diazotrophs, mainly Aphanizomenon sp. READ MORE

  5. 20. Management control for sustainability : Activities and procedures for energy management in industrial companies

    Author : Josefine Rasmussen; Mikael Ottosson; Henrik Nehler; Fredrik Tell; Fredrik Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sustainability management control; energy management; energy efficiency investments; decision-making; activities and procedures; non-energy benefits; energy-intensive industries; Energiledning; investeringar i energieffektivisering; styrning; beslutsfattande; aktiviteter; procedurer; mervärden; energiintensiv industri;

    Abstract : The thesis takes its point of departure in the important role of the industrial sector in mitigating climate change through a reduced energy use. There is a lack of understanding for how energy management should be organised and implemented in industrial companies. READ MORE
