  1. 1. Greenhouse gas emissions from Swedish milk production : towards climate-smart milk production

    Author : Maria Henriksson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from food production represent 19-29% of global anthropogenic GHG and the dairy sector alone is estimated to contribute around 3%. This thesis assessed GHG estimates for milk production (i.e. milk carbon footprint (CF)) in a life cycle perspective. READ MORE

  2. 2. Data driven crop disease modeling

    Author : Priyamvada Shankar; Marcus Liwicki; Foteini Liwicki; Lili Jiang; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Crop Disease Prediction; Precision Agriculture; Digital Farming; Artificial Intelligence; Machine learning; Maskininlärning; Machine Learning;

    Abstract : The concept of precision farming deals with the creation and use of data from machinery and sensors on and off the field to optimize resources and sustainably intensify food production to keep up with increasing demand. However, in the face of a growing amount of data being collected, smarter data processing and analysis techniques are needed and have prompted the evaluation and incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for multiple use cases right from seeding to harvesting. 3. 3. Tailoring forest management to local socio-ecological contexts : Addressing climate change and local stakeholders’ expectations of forests

    Author : Isabella Hallberg Sramek; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Forests are expected to provide multiple ecosystem services and mitigate climate change whilst also being adapted to the impacts of climate change. This thesis aims to analyse these competing expectations placed on forests in Sweden and how to tailor forest management locally to meet them by (i) applying machine learning to analyse forest conflicts in daily media from 2012 to 2022 and (ii) collaborating with local forest stakeholders to co-produce locally-tailored forest management pathways in two study areas in Sweden. 4. 4. Towards co-management of Gialova Lagoon : A Natura 2000 coastal wetland in Messinia, Greece

    Author : Georgios Maneas; Håkan Berg; Stefano Manzoni; Ernsteins Raimonds; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salinity; wetland restoration; ecosystem services; participatory modelling; social-ecological system; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : The management of Natura 2000 sites is considered as the cornerstone for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity within Europe. However, protected ecosystems provide a plethora of benefits to local societies, and support the local economy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring Anaerobic Bacteria for Industrial Biotechnology - Diversity Studies, Screening and Biorefinery Applications

    Author : Rosa Aragao; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anaerobic bacteria; industrial biotechnology; biorefinery; microbial diversity; single cell entrapment; llama rumen;

    Abstract : Depletion of easily accessible fossil energy resources, threat of climate change and political priority to achieve energy self-sufficiency and sustainable solutions prioritize a conscious and smart use of renewable resources to generate a bio-based economy. Bio-based compounds can replace chemicals and fuels that are now mainly produced from crude oil. READ MORE
