  1. 6. Characterization of IgY for Oral Immunotherapy and Prevention of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infections in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Jane Burns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Chicken antibodies, commonly referred to as IgY, have several properties that make them suitable for oral treatment of infections and there is essentially no risk for development of resistance. The overall aims of this thesis were to investigate Anti-Pseudomonas IgY as prophylaxis against infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and to characterize the antibody treatment. 2. 7. Some Characteristics of Human Prostasomes and Their Relationship to Prostate Cancer

    Author : Göran Ronquist; Anders Larsson; Lena Carlsson; Alicia Llorente; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Background: The secretory epithelial cells of the prostate gland use sophisticated vehicles named prostasomes to relay important information to sperm cells in semen. This prostasome-forming and secretory ability of the epithelial cells is also preserved in poorly differentiated prostate cancer cells. READ MORE

  3. 8. Misfolded superoxide dismutase-1 in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    Author : Per Zetterström; Stefan L Marklund; Lawrence J. Hayward; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease in which the motor neurons die in a progressive manner, leading to paralysis and muscle wasting. ALS is always fatal, usually through respiratory failure when the disease reaches muscles needed for breathing. Most cases are sporadic, but approximately 5–10% are familial. READ MORE

    Abstract : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. READ MORE

    Abstract : Exploring and visualizing biological and pathological processes in living cells are useful for both fundamental research and applications. An understanding on the molecular level for these processes with focus on tracking biomarkers, collecting information about their surroundings, and uncovering essential molecular pathways and functions in live cells are of vital interest for cell biological study and clinical diagnosis application.
