  1. 21. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of human onchocerciasis

    Author : Magdi Mahmoud Ali; Klavs Berzins; Norbert Brattig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is a parasitic disease that affects more than 20 million people globally. The induction of pathology is directly related to the presence and destruction of the microfilarial stages (mf) of this filarial nematode. READ MORE

  2. 22. Defining the genetics of systemic autoimmunity in mouse models of lupus

    Author : Katarina Haraldsson; Kristina Lejon; Dwight Kono; Chandra Mohan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SLE; susceptibility; HgIA; genome-wide mapping; Lbw2; Lmb1-4; suppressing gene; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic multi-organ autoimmune disease considered a prototype for autoantibody and immune complex-mediated tissue injury. Although autoantibodies against a wide diversity of self-antigens are characteristically found in this disease, an important hallmark is the presence of autoantibodies to nuclear antigens. READ MORE

  3. 23. Human genetic factors involved in immunity to Plasmodium falciparum infection

    Author : Manijeh Vafa Homann; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Marcel Hommel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasmodium falciparum; Malaria; Immunity; Ethnic groups; Mali; Senegal; Genetic factors; IL-4; IL-10; Polymorphism; MOI; RBC variants; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : This study investigated the associations between IL-4 -590 C/T and IL-10 -1087 A/G polymorphisms and malariometric indexes in the Fulani and the Dogon ethnic groups living in sympatry in Mali and differing in susceptibility to malaria. The correlations between antibodies level and parasitological data as well as splenomegaly were assessed. READ MORE

  4. 24. Immunological characteristics of a C-terminal fragment of the Plasmodium falciparum blood-stage antigen Pf332

    Author : Halima Aramide Balogun; Klavs Berzins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Till date, there are no effective control strategies against the deadly disease of malaria, and millions of children across Africa, Oceania, Asia, and Latin America are at the mercy of this long term enemy of man every second that passes by. Other control measures combined with vaccination might help improve control strategy against malaria, but the development of vaccines face various challenges as well, due to the complexity of the parasites’ life cycle and other host factors.
