  1. 21. Cisplatin-resistance and cell death in malignant pleural mesothelioma cells

    Author : Veronica Janson; Kjell Grankvist; Roger Henriksson; Parviz Behnam-Motlagh; Anders Johansson; Boris Zhivotovsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; BH3-only proteins; caspase; cell morphology; potassium transport; protein kinase B PKB Akt ; signalling pathways; time; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive, treatment-resistant tumour. Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II)) is the best single-agent chemotherapy for MPM, but platinum-based combination therapies give the best overall response rates. However, cisplatin use is limited by resistance and severe side effects. READ MORE

  2. 22. Tissue Factor Biological Functions : Coagulation Activity in Microparticles and Signaling with Focus On Migration and Apoptosis

    Author : Mikael Åberg; Agneta Siegbahn; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Teet Velling; Björn Dahlbäck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue factor; Apoptosis; Migration; Chemotaxis; Simvastatin; Platelet Derived Growth Factor; Cell Signaling; Microparticles; Prostasomes; Trombosis; Coagulation; Prostate Cancer; Breast Cancer; Caspase-3; Caspase-8; NFkappaB; PAR2; Transactivation; Monocytes; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Background: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein known as the main initiator of blood coagulation. TF is over-expressed on many malignant cells and apart from increasing the risk of thrombosis, the presence of TF/FVIIa also promotes the progression of cancer and metastasis by intracellular signaling. 3. 23. Bacterial infections in dogs with special reference to urinary tract infections, surgical site infections and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius

    Author : Ulrika Windahl; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : An increase in antimicrobial resistance in canine bacterial pathogens, including multidrug-resistance, has been reported worldwide. Increasing antimicrobial resistance is of concern, not only as it complicates therapy in dogs, but also as it is a public health problem when the pathogens are zoonotic, or the location of resistance genes enables transfer between bacteria of animal and human origin. 4. 24. Post-Dural Puncture Headache in Obstetrics : Audiological, Clinical and Epidemiological studies

    Author : Bijan Darvish; Anil Gupta; Lars Irestedt; Gunnar Dahlgren; Sigridur Kalman; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Accidental dural puncture; post-dural puncture headache; epidural blood patch; obstetrics; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) is the most common complication of obstetric epidural analgesia. The characteristic positional headache, often associated with visual, vestibular or cochlear symptoms, is severe and disabling for the parturient. The diagnosis is clinical without the possibility of confirmatory objective tests. READ MORE

  5. 25. Molecular genetics of human carbohydrate defined blood groups. Studies of the ABO and P blood group systems

    Author : Rudi Steffensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABO blood group system; P blood group system; carbohydrate antigen; DNA; sequencing; populations studies; expression studies;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to explore the molecular genetics of the carbohydrate defined blood group ABO and P systems.The blood group ABO system is the clinically most significant system in transfusion medicine. Using modern molecular biology, a number of the ABO alleles have been characterized. READ MORE
