  1. 1. Interaction of Triglyceride-rich Lipoproteins with Platelets and Vitamin K-dependent Coagulation Factors

    Author : Ning Xu; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triglycerides.; Prothrombin; Protein S; Protein C; Platelets; Phospholipids; Metabolism; Lipoproteins; Lipids; Endocytosis; Electron microscopy; Cytochemistry; Coronary heart disease; Blood coagulation factors; Arachidonic acid; Atherosclerosis; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : 1. During incubation of platelets with 3H-arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) and 14C-cholesterol doubly labelled and colloidal gold labelled chylomicrons (CMs) and chylomicron remnants (CMRs) CMs were taken up more efficiently than CMRs. Addition of unlabelled CMs, VLDLs, LDLs and HDLs decreased the uptake of labelled CMs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Urinary tract infections in primary health care in northern Sweden : epidemiological, bacteriological and clinical aspects

    Author : Sven Ferry; Bengt Mattsson; Lars Burman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection UTI ; primary health care PHC ; epidemiology; clinical presentation; bacteriuria diagnosis; bacteriology; drug resistance; therapy;

    Abstract : The epidemiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the population of Vännäs (8 000 inhabitants) was studied during one year. The annual incidence increased from 0.5% in the first decade of life to more than 10% in the age group 90-100 years. READ MORE

  3. 3. Diagnostic aspects of skin cancer and lichen sclerosus studied with laser scanning microscopy

    Author : Despoina Kantere; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Histopathologic examination of tissue biopsies is the current gold standard for the diagnosis of dermatological problems. Similarly, in oncology, sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is the state-of-the-art diagnostic method for me- tastasis screening. READ MORE

  4. 4. Epidemiological and Bacteriological Aspects of Spotted Fever Rickettsioses in Humans, Vectors and Mammals in Sweden

    Author : Karin Elfving; Kenneth Nilsson; Eva Hjelm; Björn Olsen; Tomas Bergström; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Rickettsiae are obligate intracellular gram-negative bacteria transmitted by arthropod vectors. Rickettsiae sometimes cause disease in humans, typically with high fever, headache and occasionally an eschar.In Sweden, Rickettsia helvetica, belonging to the spotted fever group, is the only tick-transmitted rickettsia found free in nature. Abstract : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. READ MORE
