  1. 1. Dosimetric effects of breathing motion in radiotherapy

    University dissertation from Lund University, Faculty of Science, Department of Medical Radiation Physics

    Author : Anneli Edvardsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2018-09]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radiotherapy; breathing motion; DIBH; interplay effects; VMAT; proton therapy; breast cancer; Hodgkin’s lymphoma; liver; dosimetry; treatment planning; medical physics;

    Abstract : The goal of radiotherapy is to deliver a homogeneous high dose of radiation to a tumour while minimising the dose to the surrounding healthy tissue. To achieve this, increasingly advanced treatment techniques, such as volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and proton therapy, have been developed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements

    University dissertation from Lund University (Media-Tryck)

    Author : Linda Knutsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; tomography; medical instrumentation; Clinical physics; cerebral blood volume; mean transit time; cerebral blood flow; perfusion; dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI arterial input function; Klinisk fysiologi; radiology;

    Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 3. 3. Irradiation of members of the general public from radioactive caesium following the Chernobyl reactor accident. Field studies in a highly contaminated area in the Bryansk region, Russia

    University dissertation from Department of Radiation Physics, Lund university

    Author : Charlotte Thornberg; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; body burden; Effective dose; Cs-137; urinary excretion; Cs-134; biological half-time; Chernobyl; breast milk; Medicine human and vertebrates ; internal irradiation; external irradiation; TLD; Clinical physics; radiology; medical instrumentation; tomography; Medicin människa och djur ; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : From 1990 to 1998, estimations of the effective dose from external as well as internal irradiation from 137Cs and 134Cs were carried out for inhabitants in rural villages in the Bryansk region, Russia, highly contaminated due to the Chernobyl accident in 1986. The villages were situated about 180 km from the Chernobyl power plant and the deposition of 137Cs was in the range 0. READ MORE

  4. 4. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry

    University dissertation from Department of Radiation Physics, Lund university

    Author : Peter Magnusson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; image registering; multi-slice; slice profile; ferrous sulphate; polyacrylamide; 3D volume acquisition; RF field; B1 field; relaxation time; T1; T2; spin-echo; multi-spin-echo; stochastic noise; nonuniformity; SNR; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Radiopharmaceutical technology; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Laser Spectroscopy in Scattering Media for Biological and Medical Applications

    University dissertation from Division of Atomic Physics, Department of Physics, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Lund University
