  1. 1. Neonatal Exposure to Anaesthesia and Adjuvants Acute Effects on Cerebral Apoptosis and Neuroproteins, and Late  Behavioural Aberrations in Mice

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Emma Pontén; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anaesthesia; neonatal; apoptosis; bahaviour; clonidine; ketamine; propofol; theophyllamine; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : During a finite developmental phase – the brain growth spurt – the brain grows and matures at an accelerated rate. During this period the brain is more sensitive to harmful substances such as ethanol and environmental toxins than before or after. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cerebral circulation and the sympathetic nervous system in patients with traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Silvana Naredi; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatic brain injury; brain edema; microcirculation; intracranial pressure; epo-prostenol; norepinephrine; subarachnoid hemorrhage; sympathetic nervous system; clonidine;

    Abstract : Maintenance of adequate cerebral microcirculation is necessary to avoid cerebral ischemia after severe traumatic brain injury and non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. After severe traumatic brain injury the blood-brain-barrier is disrupted and transcapillary leakage will contribute to the development of vasogenic brain edema. READ MORE

  3. 3. Conctraction-mediating receptors in human peripheral vessels with special reference to veins and lymphatics

    University dissertation from Department of Surgery, Clinical Sciences Lund, Lund University

    Author : Trygve Sjöberg; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1989]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; arteries; veins; lymphatis; contraction; in vitro; in vivo; adrenergic receptors; noradrenaline; cirazoline; phenylephrine; clonidine; calcium antagonists; nifedipine; diltiazem; prostaglandins; thromboxane A2; U-46619; BM-13.505; indomethacin;

    Abstract : By means of a myograph, postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in human superficial epigastric arteries and veins obtained from health subjects. The rank order of potency of subtype selective agonists could not be used for receptor characterization in these vessels, whereas antagonists gave distinct results. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clonidine in paediatric anaesthesia: : Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Surgical Science

    Author : Henrik TG Bergendahl; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-2 adreoceptor agonists; anaesthesia; analgesia; bioavailability; clonidine; confusion; dose response; epidural; haemodynamics; intubation tracheal; midazolam; neuropeptide Y; paediatric; pharmacokinetic; postoperative; postoperative vomiting; premedication; sedation; shivering; variability.;

    Abstract : Clonidine is a mixed alpha-2/alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonist. It reduces sympathetic and increases parasympathetic tone which results in a lowering of the baseline blood pressure and heart rate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Perioperative effects of systemic or spinal clonidine as adjuvant during spinal anaesthesia

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Igor Dobrydnjov; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2004]

    Abstract : Aim of study: To evaluate the effects of different doses of clonidine administered systemically or spinally in combination with local anaesthetics on sensory and motor block intraoperatively, on pain relief postoperatively, and on the incidence of postoperative alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) in alcohol abusers.Patients and methods: A total 285 patients were included in five studies.
