  1. 1. Performance problem diagnosis in cloud infrastructures

    Author : Olumuyiwa Ibidunmoye; Erik Elmroth; Guilliano Casale; Viktoria Fodor; Henrik Björklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Systems Performance; Performance anomalies; Performance bottlenecks; Cloud infrastructures; Cloud Computing; Cloud Services; Cloud Computing Performance; Performance problems; Performance anomaly detection; Performance bottleneck identification; Performance Root-cause Analysis; Computer Systems; datorteknik; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Cloud datacenters comprise hundreds or thousands of disparate application services, each having stringent performance and availability requirements, sharing a finite set of heterogeneous hardware and software resources. The implication of such complex environment is that the occurrence of performance problems, such as slow application response and unplanned downtimes, has become a norm rather than exception resulting in decreased revenue, damaged reputation, and huge human-effort in diagnosis. 2. 2. Autonomous cloud resource provisioning : accounting, allocation, and performance control

    Author : Ewnetu Bayuh Lakew; Erik Elmroth; Hiaohui (Helen) Gu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloud computing; distributed infrastructure; monitoring; accounting; performance modeling; service differentiation; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Abstract : The emergence of large-scale Internet services coupled with the evolution of computing technologies such as distributed systems, parallel computing, utility computing, grid, and virtualization has fueled a movement toward a new resource provisioning paradigm called cloud computing. The main appeal of cloud computing lies in its ability to provide a shared pool of infinitely scalable computing resources for cloud services, which can be quickly provisioned and released on-demand with minimal effort. 3. 3. Dynamic Cloud Resource Management : Scheduling, Migration and Server Disaggregation

    Author : Petter Svärd; Erik Elmroth; Odej Kao; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cloud computing; virtualization; distributed infrastructure; live migration; scheduling;

    Abstract : A key aspect of cloud computing is the promise of infinite, scalable resources, and that cloud services should scale up and down on demand. This thesis investigates methods for dynamic resource allocation and management of services in cloud datacenters, introducing new approaches as well as improvements to established technologies. 4. 4. Resource, Data and Application Management for Cloud Federations and Multi-Clouds

    Author : Vamis Xhagjika; Leandro Navarro Moldes; Vladimir Vlassov; Gregory Chockler; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-Cloud; Geo-Distribution; Live Streaming; Locality optimisation; Multicast; Multi-Cloud Overlay; Cloud Federation; Web Real-time Communications; WebRTC-RTCWEB; Media Quality; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Distributed Real-Time Media Processing refers to classes of highly distributed, delay no-tolerant applications that account for the majority of the data traffic generated in the world today. Real-Time audio/video conferencing and live content streaming are of particular research interests as technology forecasts predict video traffic surpassing every other type of data traffic in the world in the near future. 5. 5. Managing cloud resource scarcity

    Author : Lars Larsson; Erik Elmroth; Cristian Klein; Philipp Leitner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud computing; edge computing; kubernetes; federation; scheduling; quality elasticity;

    Abstract : According to the Infrastructure-as-a-Service conceptualization of cloud computing, Infrastructure Providers offer utility-like pay-as-you-go access to computing resources (e.g., data processing, networks, and storage) to Service Providers, who use those resources to host applications for the benefit of end users.
