  1. 1. A study of micro-particles in the dust and melt at different stages of iron and steelmaking

    Author : Muhammad Nabeel; Andrey Karasev; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle size distribution; ironmaking; iron ore pellets; dust generation; mechanical wear; friction; reduction; REM clusters; Electrolytic extraction; cluster size distribution; growth mechanism; collisions; statistical analysis.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : The dust particles generated due to mechanical wear of iron ore pellets and clusters formed in molten stainless steel alloyed with rare earth metals (REM) are considered in this study. Firstly, the influence of the characteristics of iron ore pellets, applied load on a pellet bed and partial reduction of the pellets on the size distribution of the generated dust was investigated. 2. 2. Visualizing Cluster Patterns at Scale : A Model and a Library

    Author : Elio Ventocilla; Maria Riveiro; Göran Falkman; Rafael M. Martins; Katerina Vrostou; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Visual analytics; cluster patterns; big data; unsupervised learning; multidimensional projections; vector quantization; progressive visual analytics; Skövde Artificial Intelligence Lab SAIL ; Skövde Artificial Intelligence Lab SAIL ;

    Abstract : Large quantities of data are being collected and analyzed by companies and institutions, with the aim of extracting knowledge and value. When little is known about the data at hand, analysts engage in exploratory data analysis to achieve a better understanding. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of microstructure on fatigue and ductility properties of tool steels

    Author : Mats Randelius; Rolf Sandström; Jens Bergström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool steels; fatigue; ductility; carbides; carbide cluster; inclusion; size distribution; modelling; FEM; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Fatigue and ductility properties in various tool steels, produced by powder metallurgy, spray forming or conventionally ingot casting, have been analysed experimentally and successfully compared to developed models. The models are able to predict the fatigue limit and cause for fatigue fracture, and strain- and stress-development until fracture during the ductile fracture process respectively. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physical characterization of exosomes and other extracellular vesicles using surface-based sensing

    Author : Deborah Rupert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticle tracking analysis; exosomes; scattering; surface-based biosensing; optical density; cluster of differentiation 63 CD63 ; liposomes; label-free; fluorescence; surface plasmon resonance; Extracellular vesicles; specificity; antibody; lipid content; single particle; quantification; size distribution; optical waveguide microscopy;

    Abstract : Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are hundred of nanometer sized particles secreted by almost all cell types. Exosomes are one type of EVs today intensively investigated due to the increased evidence suggesting that they play important roles as communicating vehicles in a broad range of physiological processes, pathological conditions and disease diagnostics. 5. 5. Computational studies of water vapour - Liquid equilibrium

    Author : Erik Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Monte Carlo simulation; cluster; water; Gibbs ensemble;

    Abstract : It is commonly known that water plays a crucial role in many natural and industrial processes. One of these processes is the formation of water trees, and the subsequent breakdown of polyethylene used for high voltage cable insulation purposes. READ MORE
