  1. 1. Structure and function relationships in the PGC-1 family of transcriptional coactivators

    Author : Manizheh Izadi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : PGC-1 coactivators are central regulators of several cellular processes, most notably the coupling between energy demands and supply. PGCs activate distinct biological processes in a tissue-specific manner. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transcriptional control in the vascular wall. Actin-responsive coactivators and smooth muscle transcripts

    Author : Katarzyna Krawczyk; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally. In the European Union (EU) alone, CVD accounts for 1.8 million deaths each year. CVD is a group of disorders involving the heart and the blood vessels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transcriptional control mechanisms in the wall of the urinary bladder. Myocardin family coactivators and the transcriptomic impact of denervation

    Author : Baoyi Zhu; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Urological problems can be caused by diseases that affect the bladder wall and its innervation. Contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) is essential for maintaining detrusor function and for emptying the bladder. READ MORE

  4. 4. Oxygen-dependent regulation of transcription by the hypoxia-inducible factor-1

    Author : Jorge Lira Ruas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hypoxia; HIF-1; protein degradation; transcription; coactivators; CBP; subcellular localization; C1-tetrahydrofolate synthase;

    Abstract : Under limited oxygen availability (hypoxia) cells undergo rapid reprogramming in order to survive in the new environment until normoxic conditions are re-established. The observation that hypoxia can induce the expression of genes involved in erythropoiesis, angiogenesis and glucose metabolism among others, led to the identification of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) as a master regulator of the hypoxia-response pathway. 5. 5. Studies on the atypical orphan receptor SHP

    Author : Lotta Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Nuclear receptors (NRs) comprise the largest family of transcription factors in eukaryotes and play critical roles in nearly every aspect of vertebrate development and adult physiology. In general, they function as transcriptional regulators that when bound to DNA either activate or suppress target gene expression. READ MORE
