  1. 16. Coexistence and distribution in some marine fish species, especially Pomatoschistus minutus (Pallas) and P. microps (Krøyer)

  2. 17. Neuropeptides, 'gaseous' messengers and classic transmitters : electrophysiological and histochemical studies on coexistence and interactions in the nervous system

    Author : Zhi-Qing David Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dorsal root ganglion; galanin; hippocampus; 5-hydroxytryptamine; locus coeruleus; nerve injury; nitric oxide; noradrenaline.;

    Abstract : The distribution and functional role of neuropeptides were studied, with special reference to galanin (GAL) and the free radical nitric oxide (NO). In developing systems GAL expression was observed already at E14 in trigeminal and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons and at E15 in sensory epithelia in ear, eye and nose, as well as at E19 during bone formation. 4. 19. Neuropeptide circuitries regulating food and water intake

    Author : Christian Broberger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : agouti gene-related protein; anorexia mutation; arcuate nucleus; cholecystokinin; cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript; coexistence; confocal microscopy; dorsal root ganglion; feeding; hypocretin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; melanin-concentrating hormone; nodose ganglion; nucleus tractus solitaxii; orexin; paraventricular nucleus; satiety; sensory neurones; pro-opiomelanocortin; vagus nerve;

    Abstract : An adequate supply of nutrients through food intake is critical for survival, as evidenced by disorders such as obesity and anorexia, which in the long run may be life-threatening. Feeding behaviour is ultimately controlled by interacting neuronal populations in the brain. READ MORE

  5. 20. Effects of Past and Current Land Use on Biodiversity: from a semi-natural grassland on Öland (Sweden) to a European perspective

    Author : Marie Vandewalle; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem services; bioindicators; land-use history; Biodiversity; semi-natural grasslands conservation; habitat fragmentation; functional diversity;

    Abstract : Concerns are increasing about the loss of biodiversity under land use change and how this will affect the ecosystem services provided by natural and semi-natural communities and consequently how this will threaten human well-being. The thesis examines the impact of present and past land use on different aspects of biodiversity; namely species diversity, traits and functional diversity and on ecosystem services. READ MORE
