  1. 1. The cognitive use of artifacts in cooperative process management : Rescue management and underground line control

    Author : Christer Garbis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognitive artifacts; distributed cognition; cooperative process management; cognitive ethnography; centers of coordination; customization; cognitive system; computer supported cooperative work; ecology of cognitive artifacts; Kognitiva processer; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : Work performed in various types of centers of coordination is highly dynamic and requires that a team continuously take actions and make multiple decisions in real time. This type of Work is here refered to as cooperative process management. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cognitive deafness : The deterioration of phonological representations in adults with an acquired severe hearing loss and its implications for speech understanding

    Author : Ulf Andersson; Björn Lyxell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Acquired hearing loss; phonological processsing; cochlear implants; speechreading; Disability research; Handikappsforskning;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to examine possible cognitive consequences of acquired hearing loss and the possible impact of these cognitive consequences on the ability to process spoken language presented through visual speechreading or through a cochlear implant.The main findings of the present thesis can be summarised in the following conclusions: (a) The phonological processing capabilities of individuals who have acquired a severe hearing loss or deafness deteriorate progressively as a function of number of years with a complete or partial auditory deprivation. 3. 3. Cognitive Interactive Robot Learning

    Author : Benjamin Fonooni; Hellström Thomas; Lars Erik Janlert; Christian Balkenius; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Learning from Demonstration; Imitation Learning; Human Robot Interaction; High-Level Behavior Learning; Shared Control; Cognitive Architectures; Cognitive Robotics; Priming; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Abstract : Building general purpose autonomous robots that suit a wide range of user-specified applications, requires a leap from today's task-specific machines to more flexible and general ones. To achieve this goal, one should move from traditional preprogrammed robots to learning robots that easily can acquire new skills. READ MORE

  4. 4. An investigation of cognitive aspects affecting human performance in manual assembly

    Author : Anna Brolin; Keith Case; Peter Thorvald; Leo De Vin; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cognitive ergonomics; Manual assembly; Manufacturing; Usability; Cognitive workload; Information presentation; Material presentation; Product variants; Kitting; Technology; Teknik; User Centred Product Design; Användarcentrerad produktdesign;

    Abstract : Modern manufacturing systems seem to be shifting from mass production to mass customisation, which means that systems must be able to manage changes in customer demands and requirements, new technology as well as environmental demands. This in turn leads to an increase in product variants that need to be assembled. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio

    Author : Inna Valieva; Krister Landernäs; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; elektronik; Electronics;

    Abstract : This work focuses on the improvement of spectrum utilization by evaluating and proposing a subset of radio scene analysis algorithms for opportunistic spectrum access deployment in a cognitive radio network. The proposed algorithms aim to solve two problems: detecting vacant frequency channels and estimating the waveform, including modulation type, symbol rate, and central frequency. READ MORE
