  1. 1. The Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP II and evaporative cooling of highly-charged ions

    Author : Matthias Hobein; Reinhold Schuch; David Lunney; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penning trap; Precision mass spectrometry; Atomic mass; Highly-charged ions; Evaporative cooling; Coherent oscillation; Ion beam emittance; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Accurate mass values have wide-ranging applications in physics and metrology, allowing, for example, to test quantum electrodynamics and fundamental symmetries, to determine fundamental constants, and to establish weight standards. This thesis describes the new high-precision double-Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP II which aims at relative uncertainties in the mass determination of 10-10 and below. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adiabatic Andreev Levels Under Irradiation - Coherent Dynamics and Dephasing

    Author : Niklas I:son Lundin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A study of the Andreev level current through a weakly voltage-biased single-mode superconducting quantum point contact under microwave irradiation is presented. The applied microwave field induces resonant transitions between the current carrying Andreev states localized to the contact region, which results in an increase of the dc subgap current by several orders of magnitude. 3. 3. Partially Coherent Laser Radiation - Modeling and Application to Optical Microlithography

    Author : Christer Rydberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microlithography; coherence; temporal speckle; partial coherence; optical propagation; number of degrees of freedom; dynamic speckle;

    Abstract : This work deals with a type of light that has properties somewhere between blackbody radiation and conventional laser light; such light is referred to as partially coherent. One example is the radiation from the pulsed excimer laser, which is used in the manufacturing of most of the worlds integrated circuits. READ MORE

  4. 4. Time-resolved plasmonics in designed nanostructures

    Author : Eleonora Lorek; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasmon; Nanostructure fabrication; High-order harmonic generation; Photoemission electron microscopy; Focused ion beam; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Lorek;

    Abstract : A metal nanoparticle can be considered as consisting of a base of positive ion cores and a sea of free electrons. When the free electrons are displaced, for example, by an incident electric field, a restoring force acts on the electrons. The electrons may then oscillate back and forth until equilibrium is reached. READ MORE

  5. 5. Digital measurement and control of microwave quantum circuits

    Author : Mats Tholén; Vladislav Korenivski; David B. Haviland; Stefan Filipp; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconducting circuits; circuit QED; quantum sensing; quantum capaci- tance; 3D cavity; bosonic codes; noise radar; instrumentation; supraledande kretsar; krets QED; kvantavkänning; kvantkapacitans; 3D ka- vitet; bosonic codes; brusradar; mätinstrument; Material and Nano Physics; Material- och nanofysik;

    Abstract : Superconducting circuits are well established tools for quantum sensing anda promising new platform for quantum computing. Typically these quantumcircuits operate at microwave frequencies where the thermal noise at 10mK in a dilution refrigerator is small compared to the ground-state energy. READ MORE
