  1. 21. Coherent Processes in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Solids

    Author : Andreas Walther; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum memories; laser stabilization; quantum computation; rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; spectral hole-burning; superradiance; entanglement; spectroscopy; slow light;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a number of coherent processes, such as quantum information processing, superradiance and electromagnetically induced transparency, which have been experimentally implemented using rare-earth-ion-doped crystals. The rare-earths are a class of elements that have in common, an atomic structure that allows for very long lifetimes as well as coherence times, both on optical transitions and on spin transitions. Abstract : This thesis describes investigations of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals for quantum information processing and quantum optics. Several aspects of the coherent interaction between light and rare-earth ions in solids are addressed. Quantum information science has given physicists new views of quantum mechanics. READ MORE

  3. 23. Boundary-layer structure in flow over a heterogeneous surface

    Author : Patrick Samuelsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Airborne measurements performed within the framework of NOPEX (Northern Hemisphere Land Surface Climate Processes Experiment) have been used to study processes related to fluxes of momentum, heat, and moisture in the boundary layer in the Swedish boreal region. The NOPEX area is characterized as heterogeneous with respect to vegetation. READ MORE

  4. 24. Competitive Advantage in the Service Industry : The Importance of Strategic Congruence, Integrated Control and Coherent Organisational Structure – A Longitudinal Case Study of an Insurance Company

    Author : Susanna Poth; Fredrik Nilsson; Johnny Lind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Strategy; Control; Competitive Advantage; Financial Service Industry; Insurance Industry;

    Abstract : Competitive advantage has received considerable attention. Few studies have however chosen a holistic approach taking multiple aspects and organisational levels into consideration. This research has the goal of filling parts of this void. READ MORE

  5. 25. Towards atomically resolved magnetic measurements in the transmission electron microscope : A study of structure and magnetic moments in thin films

    Author : Hasan Ali; Klaus Leifer; Peter Van Aken; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transmission electron microscope; thin films; magnetic moments; electron energy loss spectroscopy; simultaneous acquisition; electron magnetic circular dichroism; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialanalys; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Analysis;

    Abstract : The magnetic properties of thin metallic films are significantly different from the bulk properties due to the presence of interfaces. The properties shown by such thin films are influenced by the atomic level structure of the films and the interfaces. READ MORE
