  1. 6. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of touch, cold and warmth in health, neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia

    Author : Eva-Liz Harju; Gary B Rollman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Ongoing pain; tactile and thermal dys function; perceived intensity; Master Scaling; perceived quality; Känsel; Smärta; fysiologisk psykologi; Fibromyalgi; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The general aim of the present thesis is to examine tactile and thermal perceptual (dys)function by quantitative and qualitative tests of patients with neuropathic pain or fibromyalgia, and to compare results with those of healthy persons. A specific aim is to provide individual data for diagnostic purposes, specific to touch, cold, and warmth (profiles). READ MORE

  2. 7. Evaluation of strategies to predict and improve early graft survival in clinical islet transplantation

    Author : Torbjörn Lundgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Islets of Langerhans; clinical islet transplantation; cold storage; outcomes; PET CT; imaging; IBMIR;

    Abstract : Transplantation of the islets of Langerhans as a treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is a procedure still under development. For the last decade it has been possible to obtain insulin independence by repeated infusions of islets. However, most patients must resume insulin therapy in 2-3 years. READ MORE

  3. 8. Neuropathic pain : somatosensory functions related to spontaneous ongoing pain, mechanical allodynia and pain relief

    Author : Åsa Landerholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Peripheral neuropathic pain; Central post stroke pain; Dynamic mechanical allodynia; Static mechanical allodynia; Dysesthesia; Quantitative sensory testing; Spinal cord stimulation.;

    Abstract : Introduction and aim: Patients with neuropathic pain suffer from spontaneous ongoing pain and from abnormal stimulus-evoked pain, e.g., allodynia. READ MORE

  4. 9. Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome : pathophysiology of the vestibular mucosa

    Author : Nina Bohm-Starke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome; immunohistochemistry; QST; COX 2; NOS; laser Doppler perfusion imaging; intraepithelial nerve fibres; pain thresholds; sensory stimulation.;

    Abstract : Objective: The main purpose of the study was to survey possible pathophysiological changes of the vestibular mucosa in women with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome with regard to the clinical findings of superficial dyspareunia and mucosal erythema. Methods: Biopsies analysed with immunohistochemistry were used to study the morphology, distribution and neuropeptide content of the peripheral nerves, and the microvascularisation of the vestibular mucosa. 5. 10. Neuronal mechanisms of feedback postural control

    Author : Li-Ju Hsu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : postural control; equilibrium; body configuration; reticulospinal neurons; stretch receptor neurons; galvanic vestibular stimulation; artificial feedback; locomotion; spinalization; rabbit; lamprey;

    Abstract : Different species maintain a basic body posture due to the activity of the postural control system. An efficient control of the body orientation, as well as the body configuration, is important for standing and during locomotion. READ MORE
