1. Becoming Artists : Self-Portraits, Friendship Images and Studio Scenes by Nordic Women Painters in the 1880s
Abstract : The aim of this dissertation is to analyze how Nordic women artists negotiated their professional identity in painting in the 1880s, focusing on the genres of the self-portrait, the friendship image and the studio interior. It investigates how artistic identity is fashioned through self-representation, collaboration with a colleague and in interaction with the interior of the studio as a constitutive space of artistic professionalism. 2. Across a Most Radical Terrain : Towards an Aesthetics of Dissention
Abstract : The 1990s saw a tendency within the field of contemporary artistic practice for outwards expansion: artistic projects increasingly got involved in wider social and political contexts; transversal and transdisciplinary links were established with other forms of practice; collaboration and participation became the explicit form and sometimes material of artistic practices; the group, collective or network was increasingly posed as an alternative to the individual artist in much the same way as the self-organized, artist-run space set itself up as an alternative to art institutions and galleries. Taking as its point of departure such notion of expansion within the field of artistic production, this thesis sets out to explore the aesthetics developed by these practices, and the link this aesthetics poses to ethical and political trajectories. 3. Decision-making in obstetric emergencies. Individual differences and professional boundaries
Abstract : In affluent nations, variations in obstetric care, particularly during emergencies, perplexingly manifest in differing intervention and outcome rates. Although these variations mirror systemic disparities, they are also suggested to reflect the interplay of social and professional interactions between obstetricians/gynecologists and midwives, stemming from adherence to distinct professional paradigms and the influence of personal factors on decision-making and collaboration. 5. SHUT UP 'N' PLAY! Negotiating the Musical Work
Abstract : 'SHUT UP ’N’ PLAY! Negotiating the Musical Work’ is a piece of artistic research that attempts to merge artistic practice, qualitative research methods and critical analysis in a project concerned with contemporary performance practices, and specifically how these practices are created and transmitted in the interaction between composer and performer. By way of a critical reading of the musico-philosophical discussion of the ontology of the musical work and by way of a deconstruction of the concept of musical interpretation I propose a model in which the identity of the musical work is analysed as the result of interaction between multiple agents: composer, performer, instrument, score and electronics, among others.
