  1. 6. Polymer Mediated Surface Forces

    Author : Martin Turesson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte Solutions; Charge Inversion; Monte Carlo Simulations; Depletion Stabilization; Correlation Attraction; Colloid stability;

    Abstract : The issue of controlling the stability between colloidal particles in solution is important, at least for industrial applications, relying on efficient flocculation or stable dispersions. The objective of this thesis is to shed some light on fundamental mechanisms behind the interplay between attractive and repulsive forces, in solutions containing colloids and polymers. READ MORE

  2. 7. Biomimetic Membranes: : Molecular Structure and Stability Studies by Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy

    Author : Jonathan F.D. Liljeblad; Mark W. Rutland; Magnus C. Johnson; Tore Brinck; Lars Kloo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy VSFS ; Langmuir monolayer; LB depositon; phospholipids; oxidation; biomimetic membranes; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : In the research presented in this licentiate thesis the surface specific technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy, VSFS, combined with the Langmuir trough has been utilized to investigate Langmuir monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) deposited mono- and bilayers of phospholipids. Their molecular structure, stability, and hydration were probed to gain additional understanding of important properties aiming at facilitating the use of such layers as model systems for biological membranes. 3. 8. Surface and colloid chemistry of flotation deinking

    Author : Björn M. Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This study has been concentrated on explaining the surfacechemical phenomena that occur during the agglomeration andflotation of ink particles. The mechanism of agglomeration ofink particles in a calcium-fatty acid collector system has beenstudied. READ MORE

  4. 9. Lignin nanoparticles for photonic crystals and photothermal films

    Author : Jinrong Liu; Mika H. Sipponen; Maurice Collins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lignin; colloid chemistry; films; coatings; nanocomposites; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : The development of sustainable materials from biobased resources is essential due to environmental concerns posed by fossil-based materials. Lignin is a chemically complex biopolymer that exists in woody tissues of vascular plants. Lignin has many useful properties such as antioxidant activity, thermal stability, UV-absorbance, rigidity and so on. READ MORE

  5. 10. The impact of groundwater chemistry on the stability of bentonite colloids

    Author : Sandra Garcia Garcia; Mats Jonsson; Per Claesson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear chemistry; Kärnkemi;

    Abstract : I det svenska djupförvaret för kärnbränsle ska kompakterad bentonit användas som barriär mellan kopparkapslar med utbränt kärnbränsle och berget. I kontakt med vattenförande sprickor kan bentonitbarriären under vissa omständigheter avge montmorillonitkolloider. READ MORE
