  1. 16. Interfacial and material aspects of powders with relevance to pharmaceutical tableting performance

    Author : Maria Badal Tejedor; Mark W. Rutland; William Ducker; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atomic force microscopy; excipients; surface characterization; tableting; milling; amorphisation; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Tablets are the most common forms of drug administration. They are convenient to administer and easy to manufacture. However, problems associated with the adhesion of the powders to the tableting tools are common. This phenomenon is known as sticking and even though it has been well documented and studied, it remains poorly understood. READ MORE

  2. 17. Lubrication and Surface Properties of Adsorbed Layers of Polyelectrolytes and Proteins

    Author : Torbjörn Pettersson; Per M. Claesson; Hans-Jürgen Butt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biochemistry; biomedical engineering; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : Friction forces between protein / polyelectrolyte layers, adsorption properties of proteins, and conformational changes due to variation in electrolyte concentration have been investigated. The aim was to obtain better understanding of adsorbed layer properties, with focus on the relation between layer structure and lubrication capabilities. READ MORE

  3. 18. Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanostructures

    Author : Juris Prikulis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; surface plasmon resonance; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; near-field optical microscopy; optical tweezers;

    Abstract : Noble metal structures with size in the sub 100 nm range exhibit extraordinary optical properties due to collective oscillations of conduction electrons, the surface plasmon resonances (SPR). The most remarkable feature of these structures is the ability to redistribute electromagnetic radiation and concentrate strong fields near the surface. READ MORE

  4. 19. Studies of surfactant behaviour and model surfaces relevant to flotation deinking

    Author : Katarina Theander; Mark Rutland; Krister Holmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to investigate the behaviour of some model surfactants used in the deinking process, namely, sodium oleate and two ethoxylated nonionic surfactants (C12E6 and C14E6) as well as to investigate the suitability of various model substrates for mimicking interactions in technical systems. The influence of the adsorption to the air water interface has been measured by means of equilibrium and dynamic surface tension measurements, as well as foaming experiments. READ MORE

  5. 20. Novel methods for improving rapid paper-based protein assays with gold nanoparticle detection

    Author : Lara Lama; Helene Andersson Svahn; Jesper Gantelius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gold nanoparticles; ultrasound energy; signal enhancement; diagnostics; microarrays; paper-based assays; COMSOL Multiphysics simulations; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : This thesis describes methods for improving sensitivity in rapid singleplex and multiplex microarray assays. The assays utilize the optical characteristics of colloidal gold nanoparticles for the colorimetric detection of proteins.Multiplexed detection in sandwich immunoassays is limited by cross-reactivity between different detection antibodies.
