  1. 1. Biological Diversity of Fish and Bacteria in Space and Time

    Author : Henrik Ragnarsson; Peter Eklöv; Kerstin Holmgren; Göran Englund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; species richness; fish; lake; biogeography; glacial; colonization; metacommunity; speciation; perch; bacteria; diversity; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Biological diversity is controlled by an array of factors and processes all active at different spatial and temporal scales. Regional factors control what species are available to occur locally, whereas the local factors determine what species are actually capable of colonizing the locality. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Speciation in Birds – Genomic Signatures across Space and Time

    Author : Martin Stervander; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colonization; islands; isolation; introgressive hybridization; sympatry; natural selection; bill morphology; coalescence-based analyses; DNA sequencing; birds; divergence; Speciation;

    Abstract : The process of speciation is a cornerstone in evolutionary biology. In Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, he described how he imagined that a new species would evolve to fill an empty niche. This focus on ecology shifted with Mayr towards the importance of isolation, and for many decades the geographic modes of speciation were debated. READ MORE

  3. 3. German second home owners in the Swedish countryside : on the internationalization of the leisure space

    Author : Dieter K. Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Tourism; second homes; countryside; Sweden; Germany; tourist motivation; innovation diffusion; integration; gentryfication; GIS;

    Abstract : Between 1991 and 1996 the number of German second home owners in Sweden increased from about 1,500 to more than 5,500. The purpose of this thesis is to give a comprehensive description and analysis of the German cottage purchases in Sweden, 1991-96. READ MORE

  4. 4. Settler-Colonial Assemblages and the Making of the Israeli Frontier: Palestinian experiences of (in)security, surveillance and carceral geographies

    Author : Wassim Ghantous; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Palestine Israel; settler-colonialism; Deleuze Guattari; assemblages; power; resistance; politics; war machine; time space; in security; surveillance; carceral geographies;

    Abstract : This dissertation examines the operations of contemporary Israeli security machinery as it unfolds in the course of expanding the Israeli colonial frontier over Palestinian rural areas of the occupied West Bank. Since the early 1990s and up to the present, Israeli security measures and monitoring technologies multiplied and have come to operate across various public, hybrid and civilian actors and institutions that orchestrate control over Palestinian bodies as a mean to dispossess them and expand the Israeli frontier over their lands through the erection of settlements. 5. 5. Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles. Mediators of virulence and antibiotic resistance

    Author : Viveka Schaar; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Moraxella catarrhalis; epithelial cells; beta-lactamase; non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae; outer membrane vesicles; polymicrobial infections; UspA1;

    Abstract : Outer membrane vesicles (OMV) have the size of nanoparticles and are released from the outer membrane of most Gram-negative bacteria. The OMV reflect the composition of the bacterial outer membrane, including lipids and virulence factors specific for the pathogen, and are involved in pathogenesis and bacterial survival. READ MORE
