11. Dispersal of bryophytes across landscapes
Abstract : Dispersal, especially long-distance dispersal, is an important component in many disciplines within biology. Many species are passively dispersed by wind, not least spore-dispersed organisms. In this thesis I investigated the dispersal capacity of bryophytes by studying the colonization patterns from local scales (100 m) to landscape scales (20 km). 12. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) an Unclear and Untoward Issue : Patient-Professional Interactions, Experiences, Attitudes and Responsibility
Abstract : The overall aim of the present thesis was to investigate experiences of living with multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB), using methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization as an illustration, and to develop and validate a tool to describe healthcare personnel’s attitudes towards patients with MDRB. A further objective was to study MRSA-colonized persons’ and healthcare personnel’s experiences of patient-professional interactions and responsibilities for infection prevention. READ MORE

13. Distribution Patterns and Metapopulation Dynamics of Epiphytic Mosses and Lichens
Abstract : This thesis examines the relative importance of local conditions, dispersal and dynamics of the trees on epiphyte distribution patterns and colonization-extinction dynamics. Study species are the mosses Orthotrichum speciosum and O. obtusifolium, and the red-listed Neckera pennata. READ MORE

14. Grassland restoration : Connectivity, plant community change and cows
Abstract : The ecological significance of semi-natural grasslands is high because these habitats provide a home for a diverse flora and fauna and support a range of associated ecosystem services. Due to large-scale land-use changes the extent of grassland habitat has declined. READ MORE

15. A mouse model for direct evaluation of cholera vaccines
Abstract : Cholera continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality in large parts of the developing world and is a significant negative factor for economic development. Vibrio cholerae bacteria of the O1 or O139 serogroup can cause disease due to their ability to colonize the intestine and produce an enterotoxin, cholera toxin (CT). READ MORE
