    Abstract : Colour vision was of fundamental importance in modernist art. One reason its significance has been studied so little with regard to Russian art is that Soviet archives were inaccessible until the early 1990s. This work is the first close study on a so-called laboratory in an art- and science institute in the Soviet Union in the 1920s. READ MORE

  2. 2. Seasonal change in defensive coloration in a shieldbug

    Author : Aleksandra I. Johansen; Gabriella Gamberale-Stille; Birgitta S. Tullberg; Graeme Ruxton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Shield bug; colour change; protective coloration; cryptic; aposematic; behavioural change; etologi; Ethology;

    Abstract : Protective coloration such as aposematism and crypsis occurs in many insects but only a few species alter their defensive strategy during the same instar. We hypothesize the adult shield bug Graphosoma lineatum with an alternating black and non-melanised longitudinal striation exhibit such a change in defensive coloration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Colour Vision in Birds : Comparing behavioural thresholds and model predictions

    Author : Peter Olsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gallus gallus; receptor noise; visual modelling; animal training; colour discrimination; colour constancy;

    Abstract : Birds use colour vision for many biologically relevant behaviours such as foraging and mate choice. Bird colour vision is mediated by four types of single cones, giving them an extra dimension of colour information compared to trichromatic humans. READ MORE

  4. 4. Appearance of textured and pigmented polymeric surfaces

    Author : Sofie Ignell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surface texture; polymer; gloss; colour; perception; appearance;

    Abstract : The appearance is of increasing importance in the production of premium products since it is strongly connected to the quality impression. The surface appearance of any object may be described in terms of colour and surface characteristics such as gloss and texture. READ MORE

  5. 5. Melanosome transfer, photoreception and toxicity assays in melanophores

    Author : Daniel Hedberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colour change; melanophores; melanosome; intracellular transport; pigment transfer; photoreception; toxicity assay; Roundup; glyphosate;

    Abstract : Many animals such as fish and frogs have developed the ability to change colour of their skin to adapt to the environment or to signal to other individuals. This ability is due to specialised skin cells called melanophores. READ MORE
