  1. 1. Creating diverse colour-changing effects on textiles

    Author : Marjan Kooroshnia; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; dynamic textile patterns; leuco dye-based thermochromic inks; textile design; Smart textiles; Textiles and Fashion General ; Textil och mode generell ;

    Abstract : With the technological progress of materials science, the palette of colours with which to print on textiles has expanded beyond those with previously known properties and expressions to a new generation, with more advanced functionality and expressive properties. This new range of colours is characterised by their ability when printed on textiles to change colour in relation to external factors and internal programmes; for example, leuco dye-based thermochromic inks generally change colour in response to temperature fluctuations. 2. 2. Designing for changeability in textiles

    Author : Riikka Talman; Hanna Landin; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : The tendency to wear out and change is inherent in most materials, yet textiles are usually designed to retain a single expression. Within an experimental, practical work, materials that are inherently changeable were used to create woven and knitted structures in order to approach textiles from the perspective of changeability and explore what this might mean for the field of textile design. 3. 3. The Language of Textiles : Description and Judgement on Textile Pattern Composition

    Author : Siri Homlong; Christina Fjellström; Edith Skjeggestad; Lillemor Abrahamsson; Liv Merete Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Arts and literature; Textile; Pattern; Design; Amish; Quilt; Aesthetic Qualities; Repertory grid method; Natural Color System; Sloyd; Implicit knowledge; Communication; Structure of attention; Estetiska ämnen;

    Abstract : The present study concerns ways to describe, judge and discuss aesthetic qualities of designed textile patterns. Specific aims were to study how colours and compositions used in Old Amish Quilts can be systematically described, to study how simple and complex patterns in printed textile fabrics are perceived and expressed verbally and to study judgements, concepts and values in relation to designed textile patterns as expressed by schoolchildren, consumers, teachers of textile handicraft and designers. 4. 4. Functional Textile Coatings Containing Flake-shaped Fillers : investigations on selected optical and electrical properties

    Author : Veronica Malm; Ilda Kazani; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : Flakes; fillers; textile coating; properties; multilayered mica; effect pigment; angle-dependent colour change; metals; conductivity; resistance measurements; e-textiles; flexibility; durability; Textil och mode generell ; Textiles and Fashion General ;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the manufacturing and characterisation of functionalised textile coatings containing different types of flake-shaped fillers with angle-dependent colour-changing and electrically conductive properties, respectively. Common benefits of these types of flakes are their high aspect ratio, which offers low filler loading with high functional performance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Colour-changing textile coatings containing multi-layered mica pigments : an experimental study

    Author : Veronica Malm; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mulit-layered mica pigment; effect pigments; angle-dependent color-changes; textile coatings; surface structure; rheology modifiers; coating parameters; Textile Technology; Textiles and Fashion General ; Textil och mode generell ;

    Abstract : This study investigates the possibility of producing angle-dependent colour-changing textiles with thickened polyurethane (PU)-based aqueous dispersion containing multi-layered mica pigments using a direct coating method. Colour changing textile coatings with the latest generation of layered mica pigment (EP) have a promising future for functional purposes such as authentication and aesthetic eye-catching applications.
