  2. 2. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion

    Author : Henrik Thunman; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : wood; single particle; modelling; fluidized bed; thermochemical conversion; fixed bed; coal; thermal conductivity; fuel loading; measurements; thermochemical properties; biofuels; combustion; grate;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 3. 3. Torque based combustion property estimation and control for diesel engines

    Author : Mikael Thor; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Crankshaft torque measurements; Engine control; Combustion modeling; Diesel engines; Closed-loop control; Internal combustion engines; Combustion property estimation; Combustion phasing;

    Abstract : Modern diesel engines are becoming increasingly complex as a result of demands on the reduction of both fuel consumption and emissions. This escalating complexity not only applies to the engine itself, but also to its control system. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of Emission Characteristics for Diluted Flames and Renewable Fuels in Gas Turbine Combustors

    Author : Fredrik Hermann; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; framdrivningssystem; Motorer; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Termisk teknik; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; combustor rig experiments; combustor reactor models; synthetic fuel; liquid fuel; gaseous fuel; UHC; CO; NOx; emission measurements; CO2 enriched; humidified combustion; diluted combustion; premixed combustion; Gas turbine; combustion chamber; Energiforskning; Energy research;

    Abstract : Gas turbines have served as economically profitable and reliable generators of power for the past few decades, and have mainly been used in simple and combined cycles. The increased restrictions on hazardous emissions and the increased demand for profitability have created new prospects for innovative power cycles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Applications of Laser Based Measurements to Combustion Related Fluid Dynamics

    Author : Jens Klingmann; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; flame speed.; combustion; turbulence; Laser based measurements; laser Doppler anemometry; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with laser based techniques for the measurement of fluid dynamical properties and their application to combusting flowfields or flowfields related to combustion. As an introduction, the theory of turbulent flows and combustion is shortly presented. An overview of laser based measuring techniques is given. READ MORE
