  1. 1. Approaching Mathematical Discourse : Two analytical frameworks and their relation to problem solving interactions

    Author : Andreas Ryve; Kimmo Eriksson; Inger Wistedt; Anna Sfard; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Didactics of Mathematics; Mathematics Education; Analytical approaches; Communication; Concept maps; Contextualization; Discourse; Engineering students; Higher Education; Intentional analysis; Methodological framworks; Problem solving; Prospective teachers; Student teachers; Teacher education; Theoretical frameworks; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : The driving force of conducting the two studies presented in this thesis is to examine ways that conceptual understanding and problem solving could be part of mathematics teaching, and through that, part of students' mathematical knowledge. The specific aims of the thesis are: 1) to characterize the classroom discourse of two, apparently similar, problem solving courses in teacher education and 2) to discuss the possibilities of developing two analytical approaches - the communicational approach to cognition and the dialogical approach - used for studying mathematical discourse. 2. 2. Optimization of Joint Cell, Channel and Power Allocation in Wireless Communication Networks

    Author : Mikael Fallgren; Anders Forsgren; Zhi-Quan (Tom) Luo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wireless multicell networks; Optimization; OFDMA; Shannon capacity; Complexity; NP-hard; Relays; Allocation problems; Heuristic algorithms;

    Abstract : In this thesis we formulate joint cell, channel and power allocation problems within wireless communication networks. The objectives are to maximize the user with mini- mum data throughput (Shannon capacity) or to maximize the total system throughput, referred to as the max-min and max-sum problem respectively. 3. 3. Does language matter? : sources of inequivalence and demand of reading ability of mathematics tasks in different languages

    Author : Frithjof Theens; Ewa Bergqvist; Magnus Österholm; Lotta Vingsle; Andreas Ryve; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematics tasks; reading; equivalence; DIF; multilingual assessments; PISA; matematikdidaktik; didactics of mathematics; pedagogiskt arbete; educational work;

    Abstract : Practicing mathematics is not possible without the use of language. To communicate mathematical content, not only words in natural language are used but also non-verbal forms of communication such as mathematical symbols, graphs, and diagrams. All these forms of communication can be seen as part of the language used when doing mathematics. READ MORE

  4. 4. On Adjacent Channel Interference-Aware Radio Resource Management for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication

    Author : Anver Hisham Unnichiriyath Siddique; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; scheduling; adjacent channel interference ACI ; vehicle-to- vehicle V2V ; channel state information CSI ; convex optimization; LTE; vehicle-to-everything V2X ; combinatorial optimization; traffic efficiency; 3GPP; medium access control MAC ; power control; radio resource management RRM ;

    Abstract : Safety applications play an essential role in supporting traffic safety and efficiency in next generation vehicular networks. Typical safety applications require vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication with high reliability and low latency. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intrinsic Formation and Macroscopic Intervention in Multi-agent Systems

    Author : Silun Zhang; Xiaoming Hu; Johan Karlsson; Jorge Goncalves; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Attitude control; agents and autonomous systems; distributed control; formation control; nonlinear systems; moment based modelling; large- scale systems; reduced order modeling; nonlinear system identification; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : In this dissertation, we study two problems within the field of the multi-agent systems theory. One is the formation control for multiple reducedattitudes, which are extensively utilized in many pointing applications and under-actuated scenarios for attitude maneuvers. READ MORE
