1. Hazard assessment of ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole and triclosan for marine periphyton : Ecotoxicology, Pollution Induced Community Tolerance and Co-Tolerance
Abstract : Antibiotics and personal care products are used in large quantities and commonly detected in various environmental compartments. The two antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole, and the personal care product triclosan are among the most commonly detected compounds in sewage treatment plants and aquatic environments. 2. Macroalgal community dynamics on coral reefs : Implications for management
Abstract : Although rather inconspicuous on healthy coral reefs, macroalgae form the basis of coral food webs. Today, macroalgae are generally increasing and many reefs undergo transitions from coral to macroalgal dominance resulting from e.g. enhanced nutrient loading or increased fishing. READ MORE

3. Psychotropic Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Systems: An Ecological Perspective
Abstract : Psychotropic pharmaceuticals have been shown to exert a variety of sublethal effects on non-target organisms, even at low concentrations found in the environment (ng/L to µg/L); hence, the aim of my research has been to determine the individual-level effects of psychotropic pharmaceuticals (the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors sertraline and fluoxetine, and the β-blocker propranolol) on behavioral and life history traits in freshwater organisms. Further, this research was directed towards assessing the potential large-scale impacts of these effects on population growth and predator-prey interactions (with community-level implications) via the application of traditional, ecological concepts and models. 4. On Toxicant-Induced Succession in Periphyton Communities: Effects of Single Chemicals and Chemical Mixtures
Abstract : This thesis deals with the effects of single chemicals and chemical mixtures on biological communities. Ecosystems are exposed to complex mixtures of chemicals, and because combination effects can occ... READ MORE

5. Microbiome Of Ecotoxicity Assays
Abstract : Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present in animal microbiomes, particulates, and colonizable surfaces of test systems. From an ecotoxicological perspective, they are metabolically active biological compartments that respond to test conditions, including test substances. READ MORE
