  1. 21. Neuroimmunological and clinical studies in neuropsychiatric lupus erythematosus (NPSLE)

    Author : Liisa Hopia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with many organ manifestations and characteristic immunological abnormities including a large set of autoantibodies with affinity for nuclear and membrane components. Autoantibodies form immune complexes, which cause inflammation and tissue damage in affected organs. READ MORE

  2. 22. From nucleus to mitochondria : a ubiquitination study

    Author : Thibaud J C Richard; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ubiquitination is a post-translational modification achieved by an enzymatic cascade. This post-translational modification is involved in many crucial cellular processes across different cellular compartments such as protein turnover via the ubiquitin proteasome system and various signaling pathways from the DNA damage response to the immune response. 3. 23. Epstein-Barr virus latency in transplant patients and healthy carriers

    Author : Jie-Zhi Zou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I studied the latency situation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in bone marrow transplanted (BMT) patients and healthy virus carriers. Paper 1: Epstein-Barr virus genomes are found predominantly in lgA-positive B cells in the blood of healthy carriers. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the treatment of tibial fractures using the Ilizarov fixator

    Author : Telmo Oliveira Ramos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tibial fracture; external fixation; load; EQ-5D; NHP; VAS; intramedullary nail; gait analysis; randomised study;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to analyse the results of the Ilizarov method in patients with different types of tibial fracture and compare them with conventional methods, in terms of primary union, complication rates, post-operative function, quality of life, and how the patients´ gait was affected during rehabilitation. Fifty-eight patients with isolated diaphyseal fractures (Study I) were randomised to treatment with either the Ilizarov method (IL) or locked intramedullary nailing (IM). READ MORE

  5. 25. Experimental studies on Damage Control Surgery and Intraabdominal Hypertension

    Abstract : Damage control surgery (DCS) offers an alternative to the traditional surgical management of complex or multiple injuries in critically injured patients. If a patient survives the initial phase of DCS, complications may occur, one of these being intraabdominal hypertension (IAH) and it´s potential development into the abdominal compartment syndrome.
