  1. 1. Gait strategy in myelomeningocele : movements, mechanics and methods

    Author : Elena M Gutierrez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Myelomeningocele; spina bifida; gait analysis; movement analysis; muscle paresis; compensatory movements; orthoses; centre of mass.;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the movement patterns employed in self-ambulatory children with a range of muscle paresis due to nervous tissue damage resulting from myelomeningocele, a common congenital malformation of the spinal column resulting in sensory and motor paresis. Using 3D movement analysis, the upper and lower body kinematics, movement of the center of mass, and joint moments, powers, and work done during gait in 32 children with lumbo-sacral myelomeningocele were analyzed and divided into 5 groups based on the severity of paresis. 2. 2. Ocular counter-rolling during head tilt

    Author : Tony Pansell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Eye movements; Ocular torsion; VOR; head tilt; Vision.;

    Abstract : When tilting the head towards the shoulder there are numerous mechanisms influencing on the generation and maintenance of ocular counter-roll. Each of these mechanisms has its own temporal and spatial characteristics which influences on the counter-rolled eye position. READ MORE

  3. 3. Postural Control in Single-limb Stance. In Individuals with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury and Uninjured Controls

    Author : Eva Ageberg; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; revalidation; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; reproducibility of results; proprioception; rehabilitation; stabilometry; Knee joint; postural control; anterior cruciate ligament; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Abstract : The overall aims of this work were to evaluate a method of assessing postural control, measured by balance in single-limb stance on a force platform, and to study balance in single-limb stance in individuals with non-operated anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in comparison with that of uninjured controls. Ninety-nine patients (99) with ACL injury and 141 uninjured subjects were included in the studies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical and kinematic assessments of upper limb function in persons with post-stroke symptoms

    Author : Gudrun M Johansson; Charlotte K Häger; Helena Grip; Erika Franzén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Cross-sectional studies; Arm; Hand; Gait; Outcome assessment; Clinical laboratory techniques;

    Abstract : Stroke is a common and multifaceted disease that often involves motor deficits in the upper limb. This thesis investigated reliability and validity of existing clinical assessments of upper limb function in persons with post-stroke symptoms and in non-disabled controls. READ MORE

  5. 5. Visually induced ocular torsion

    Author : Ulrika Sverkersten; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : There has been some controversy whether ocular torsion (eye rotation around the line of sight) is induced in response to a tilted visual scene. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if ocular torsion can be induced by viewing a tilted visual scene and to evaluate the effect of different stimuli parameters on the torsional response.
