  1. 1. Correlated random effects models for clustered survival data

    Author : Frank Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; competing risks; case-cohort; semiparametric; Survival analysis; random effects; routine register; frailty model; Survival analysis; frailty model; competing risks; random effects; case-cohort; routine register; semiparametric;

    Abstract : Frailty models are frequently used to analyse clustered survival data in medical contexts. The frailties, or random effects, are used to model the association between individual survival times within clusters. READ MORE

  2. 2. Essays on Immigrants' Economic Integration

    Author : Kerem Tezic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Second-generation immigrants; educational attainments; early labour-market experiences; competing-risks; graduate employment; calibration; first-generation immigrants; sample-selection in panel data; random effects.;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers, related to each other in terms of study-sample, study-subject or methods used. The first paper is concerned with second-generation immigrants' educational attainments, using the Longitudinal Individual Data-set (LINDA), which gave us the possibility to examine changes over time, from ages 16-17 to 21-22 and to compare second-generation immigrants with a randomly-chosen matched control-group of native Swedes. 3. 3. Development and application of competing risks and multi-state models in cancer epidemiology

    Author : Nikolaos Skourlis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Competing risks and multi-state models allow us to study complex disease settings and answer composite research questions and should be used more widely in epidemiology. This thesis aims to explore the competing risks and multi-state models areas using flexible parametric survival models (FPSMs), studying several aspects, such as the choice of timescale, choice of multi-state structure, sharing information across transitions by imposing restrictions in the estimation of the parameters, as well as communicating the results of such models to a wider audience and evaluating the use of recurrent multi-state structures in the area of recurrent events when a terminal event is present. 4. 4. Commercialization done differently : How Swedish university incubators facilitate the formation of knowledge-intensive entrepreneurial firms

    Author : Linus Brunnström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Commercialization University Incubator Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurial Firms Incubator Performance Inventor Ownership Mixed Methods Competing Risks;

    Abstract : Den här avhandlingen, i monografiformat, undersöker universitetsinkubatorernas roll i skapandet av kunskapsintensiva (KIE) företag i Sverige. Det ovanliga institutionella regelverk för hur man kommersialiserar forskningsresultat i Sverige gör ämnet intressant. READ MORE

  5. 5. Machine learning methods for precision medicine

    Author : Pablo Gonzalez Ginestet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In precision medicine, predicting the risk of an event during a specific period may help, for example, to identify patients that need early preventive treatment. Modern machine learning (ML) techniques are therefore ideal for building these predictions. READ MORE
