  1. 6. Feedback Enhancement of Immune Responses by IgE, IgM, and IgG3 Antibodies

    Author : Zhoujie Ding; Birgitta Heyman; Eva Severinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgE; IgM; IgG3; antibody responses; T-cell responses; antigen transportation; antigen presentation; complement; complement receptors 1 and 2; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Antibodies can enhance or suppress the immune responses against their specific antigens. This phenomenon is known as antibody-mediated feedback regulation. We have studied the mechanisms underlying IgE-, IgM-, and IgG3-mediated enhancement of immune responses in mouse models using intravenous immunization. READ MORE

  2. 7. Studies on hereditary C2 deficiency: Frequent occurrence of severe infections, atherosclerosis and rheumatological manifestations

    Author : Göran Jönsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; serology; Immunology; mykologi; bakteriologi; virologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; Complement; Complement C2 deficiency; Infectious diseases; Atherosclerosis; SLE; Autoantibodies; GM allotypes; Immunodeficiency state; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Microbiology; virology; bacteriology; Immunologi; serologi; Infections; Infektioner;

    Abstract : The complement system is a part of the innate immunity and is essential in the defence against microorganisms. Hereditary C2 deficiency (C2D) is one of the most common complement deficiency states with an estimated prevalence of 1:20,000 in persons of Western descent. READ MORE

  3. 8. Apoptosis of Peripheral Blood Leukocytes in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Studies on Serum Induction and Complement-Dependent Clearance Mechanisms

    Author : Birgitta Gullstrand; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement; Apoptosis; SLE; Autoimmunity;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease involving many organ systems. The cause is not known, but a complex combination of environmental and genetic factors seems to be involved. READ MORE

  4. 9. IgM and Complement in Regulation of Antibody Responses

    Author : Anna Sörman; Birgitta Heyman; Michael Holers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgG; GC responses; feedback regulation; T-cell responses; antigen presentation; complement receptors 1 and 2; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Animals deficient in complement components C1q, C4, C3, and CR1/2 have severely impaired antibody responses. C1q is primarily activated by antibody-antigen complexes. Antigen-specific IgM in complex with an antigen is able to enhance the antibody response against that antigen. This is dependent on the ability of IgM to activate complement. READ MORE

  5. 10. Mechanistic studies of the adjuvant effects of CTA1-DD and the native cholera toxin: Impact of cell targeting and tissue localization

    Author : Johan Mattsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vaccines; adjuvants; cholera toxin; germinal center; CTA1-DD; follicular dendritic cells; denritic cells; Th1; Th2; Th17; complement;

    Abstract : Vaccines are the most effective means of preventing infectious diseases and improving global health. However, few vaccines have successfully been developed for protection at mucosal surfaces where most pathogens gain access. READ MORE
