  1. 1. On the relationship between psychometric intelligence and decision making in dynamic systems

    Author : Georgios Rigas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Advanced progressive matrices; complexity continuum; complex problem solving; decision-making; dynamic systems; intelligence; intransparency; microworlds; task novelty; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : The relationship between psychometric intelligence and performance in dynamic decision making systems (microworlds) was investigated. A theoretical analysis of the mental processes that underlie performance in intelligence tests and microworlds suggested that at least some weak positive correlations should be expected. READ MORE

  2. 2. Computational topology optimization in continuum mechanics

    Author : Thomas Borrvall; Martin P. Bendsøe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This dissertation concerns theoretical and computational methodologies in topology optimization in continuum mechanics.A general procedure for treating problems of this kind starts with the establishment of a well-posed continuum problem formulation, in the sense that one can prove existence of at least one solution to the problem. 3. 3. Failure of thin-walled structures under impact loading

    Author : Salar Mostofizadeh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; shells; rate dependence; Phantom node method; cohesive zone; Continuum damage; XFEM; ductile fracture;

    Abstract : Increase in computational power during recent years contributed to a significant development in numerical methods in mechanics. There are many methods developed that address various complex problems, yet modelling of initiation and propagation of failure in thin-walled structures requires further development. READ MORE

  4. 4. Applications of Partial Polymorphisms in (Fine-Grained) Complexity of Constraint Satisfaction Problems

    Author : Biman Roy; Peter Jonsson; Victor Lagerkvist; Arnaud Durand; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study the worst-case complexity ofconstraint satisfaction problems and some of its variants. We use methods from universal algebra: in particular, algebras of total functions and partial functions that are respectively known as clones and strong partial clones. READ MORE

  5. 5. The spatial distribution of Lyman alpha from star-forming galaxies in the low redshift Universe

    Author : Armin Rasekh; Göran Östlin; Roland Bacon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lyman alpha; star-forming galaxies; Galaxy evolution; Epoch of Reionisation; galaxy morphology; Lyman continuum diagnostics; gas kinematics of galaxies; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The Lyman alpha (Lyα) emission line from the recombination of hydrogen atoms is predicted to be the strongest spectral feature of galaxies. This emission line is regularly used to detect and characterise high redshift galaxies. However, studying this spectral line is challenging. READ MORE
