  1. 1. Cell wall biosynthesis in the pathogenic oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica

    Author : Elzbieta Rzeszutek; Vincent Bulone; Carol Munro; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose biosynthesis; chitin biosynthesis; cellulose synthase genes; chitin synthase genes; oomycetes; Saprolegnia parasitica; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : The oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica is a fungus-like microorganism responsible for the fish disease saprolegniosis, which leads to important economic losses in aquaculture. Currently, there is no efficient method to control the infection and therefore methods for disease management are urgently needed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Filamentous Fungi as a Sustainable Ingredient for Fish Feed

    Author : Sajjad Karimi; José Teixeira; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; compound feed; edible filamentous fungi; essential amino acids; low-value substrates; polyunsaturated fatty acids; protein sources; submerged cultivation; thin stillage; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Limited feed ingredients hinder aquaculture’s rapid growth. Current unsustainable fish feeding practices use ingredients like fishmeal and soybean meal, which could be directly consumed for as human food. This demands novel alternatives for fish nutrition. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cell wall bulking and distribution of different chemicals in pine, Pinus Sylvestris

    Author : Lennart Wallström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : The interaction between wood, Pinus sylvestris, (60% RH) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (PEG 200 and PEG 1500), pentaerythritol and glycerol, impregnated into the wood, has been investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, EDS-analysis, dynamical mechanical techniques (DMTA), X-ray diffraction (WAXS) and macroscopic dimensional measurement. Reduced dimensional changes after impregnation when exposed to environments with changing moisture content, showed that the stabilization effect of glycerol and PEG 200 impregnation is very good. 4. 4. Electrically evoked compound action potentials as a tool for programming cochlear implants in children

    Author : Andreas Björsne; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cochlear implants; ECAP; Impedance; T-levels; C-levels;

    Abstract : Cochlear implants are generally the best treatment for young children with a profound hearing loss (or worse) when ordinary hearing aids cannot provide enough auditory stimulation. For these youngest recipients, there must be a valid rationale for deciding the level of stimulation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipid quality of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in pond culture

    Author : Jan Mraz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : There is a large body of evidence that n-3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA are beneficial for human health. Content of these fatty acids in fish fillet can be influenced by several factors. This thesis examined differences in lipid content, lipid class and fatty acid composition among three parts of common carp fillets. READ MORE
