  1. 1. Protein-based Packaging Films, Sheets and Composites: Process Development and Functional Properties

    Author : Sung-Woo Cho; Mikael Hedenqvist; Amar K. Mohanty; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wheat gluten; solution casting; compression molding; extrusion; injection molding; aging; migration; opacity; heat sealability; hemp fiber; laminate; polylactic acid; clay; nanocomposites.; Other chemical engineering; Övrig kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The depletion of the petroleum resources and a number of environmental concerns led to considerable research efforts in the field of biodegradable materials over the last few decades. Of the diverse range of biopolymers, wheat gluten (WG) stands out as an alternative to synthetic plastics in packaging applications due to its attractive combination of flexibility and strength, high gas barrier properties under low humidity conditions and renewability. 3. 3. Bio-based Composites from Soybean Oil Thermosets and Natural Fibers

    Author : Kayode Adekunle; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bio-based thermoset resins; natural fibres; hybrid composites; renewable resources; mechanical analysis; compression molding; lyocell fiber; Energi och material; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : In order to reduce over-dependency on fossil fuels and to create an environment that is free of non-degradable plastics, and most importantly to reduce greenhouse gas emission, bio-based products are being developed from renewable resources through intense research to substitute conventional petrochemical-based plastics with renewable alternatives and to replace synthetic fibers with natural fibers. Many authors have done quite a lot of work on synthesizing polymers from renewable origin. READ MORE

  4. 4. Strength of Sandwich Panels Loaded in In-plane Compression

    Author : Anders Lindström; Dan Zenkert; Stefan Hallström; Per-Lennart Larsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sandwich; in-plane compression; energy absorption; debond; postbuckling; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The use of composite materials in vehicle structures could reduce the weight and thereby the fuel consumption of vehicles. As the road safety of the vehicles must be ensured, it is vital that the energy absorbing capability of the composite materials are similar to or better than the commonly used steel structures.
