  1. 11. Body Games : Designing for movement-based play in co-located social settings

    Author : Elena Márquez Segura; Barry Brown; Annika Waern; Florian Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Man-Machine-Interaction MMI ; människa-maskin-interaktion MMI ;

    Abstract : The challenge of designing for games and playful activities has moved past the technical, to focus on how to design for a design space where the threads of the digital technologies and the physical world interweave and entangle creating a hybrid fabric where play can take place. But how can we bridge between the digital and physical world where play is enacted and unravel the tangle of this hybrid fabric? How can we braid the digital and digital threads to spur playful experiences? In this thesis, I focus on a concrete fabric of hybrid play: co–located physical and social play, and propose a framework for design in this scenario: the PLAY BOOST framework. READ MORE

  2. 12. Game-calibrated and user-tailored remote detection of emotions : A non-intrusive, multifactorial camera-based approach for detecting stress and boredom of players in games

    Author : Fernando Bevilacqua; Henrik Engström; Per Backlund; Vittorio Scarano; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; human-computer interaction; computer vision; non-obtrusive; remote sensing; affective computing; games; rPPG; Interaction Lab ILAB ; Interaction Lab ILAB ;

    Abstract : Questionnaires and physiological measurements are the most common approach used to obtain data for emotion estimation in the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) and games research. Both approaches interfere with the natural behavior of users. READ MORE

  3. 13. Combinatorial Optimization for Infinite Games on Graphs

    Author : Henrik Björklund; Sergei Vorobyov; Erich Grädel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; infinite games; combinatorial optimization; randomized algorithms; model checking; strategy evaluation functions; linear programming; iterative improvement; local search; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Games on graphs have become an indispensable tool in modern computer science. They provide powerful and expressive models for numerous phenomena and are extensively used in computer- aided verification, automata theory, logic, complexity theory, computational biology, etc. READ MORE

  4. 14. Expressing emotions through vibration for perception and control

    Abstract : This thesis addresses a challenging problem: “how to let the visually impaired ‘see’ others emotions”. We, human beings, are heavily dependent on facial expressions to express ourselves. A smile shows that the person you are talking to is pleased, amused, relieved etc. READ MORE

  5. 15. Distributed Technology-Sustained Pervasive Applications

    Author : Kim J.L. Nevelsteen; Theo Kanter; Rahim Rahmani; Kåre Synnes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pervasive; games; engine; distributed; virtual; world; internet of things; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Technology-sustained pervasive games, contrary to technology-supported pervasive games, can be understood as computer games interfacing with the physical world. Pervasive games are known to make use of ‘non-standard input devices’ and with the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), pervasive applications can be expected to move beyond games. READ MORE
