Abstract : This study emerges from the question: what is contemporary art, and mainly what criteria constitute contemporary art in a globalized art world in general? Thus, the focus of this dissertation is on the postcolonial context of Australia and the fact that the contemporary art scene in Australia is divided into Australian and Aboriginal art respectively. This is a division originating from the colonization of Australia that began in the 1770’s, resulting in an Australian art descending from a Western art practice, where there is further focus on two categories within this art. 5. The Lure of Origins : An Inquiry into Human-Environmental Relations, Focused on the ”Neolithization” of Sweden
Abstract : The purpose of this dissertation is to contribute to the discussion of the deeper meaning, in our contemporary context, of the ”neolithization” of Sweden. The basis for the investigation is twofold: * a critical examination of recent research reports dealing mostly with the Early Neolithic of (Middle) Sweden which shows, inter alia, that ”agriculture” was of marginal importance for a very long time from about 4000 BC onwards, while, at the same time, the idea of ”the transition to farming” dominates discourse.
