  1. 11. Applying lean principles and set-based approaches in product development

    Author : Mikael Ström; RISE Research Institutes of Sweden; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Set-based design; Controlled convergence; Concept development; Lean product development; Lean transformation; Industrial introduction;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis addresses the problem of transformation to lean product development (LPD) and how to introduce and support the use of set-based design (SBD) in the concept development process. The original description of SBD does not define how to generate, evaluate and reduce a set of design solutions. READ MORE

  2. 12. PET and the Multitracer Concept: An Approach to Neuroimaging Pathology

    Author : Henry Engler; Bengt Långström; Göran Hedenstierna; Juha Rinne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Neurosciences; PET Positron Emission Tomography ; multitracer; neuroimaging pathology; astrocytes; microglia; neurodegeneration; amyloid; AD; CJD; PD; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Patients suffering from different forms of neurodegenerative diseases, such as: Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease (CJD), Alzheimer disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson’s disease (PD) were examined with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and the combination of different radiotracers: 15O-water, N-[11C-methyl]-L-deuterodeprenyl (DED), [18F] 2-fluorodeoxyglucose: (FDG), N-methyl-[11C]2-(4-methylaminophenyl)-6-hydroxybenzothiazole (PIB) and L-[11C]-3,4-dihydroxiphenyl-alanine (DOPA). The radiotracers and the combinations of different radiotracers were selected with the intention to detect, in the brain, patterns of neuronal dysfunction, astrocytosis, axon degeneration or protein aggregation (amyloid), in the brain which are pathognomonic for specific diseases and may contribute to improve clinical differential diagnoses. 3. 13. The Shortened Dental Arch (SDA) concept and Swedish general dental practitioners : attitudes and prosthodontic decision-making

    Author : Eva-Karin Korduner; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Shortened dental arch; Decision-making; qualitatative research; compromised molars; dentistry; prosthodontic decision-making; Attitudes;

    Abstract : 10ABSTRACTA Shortened Dental Arch (SDA) is defined as a dentition where most posterior teeth are missing. The SDA concept, described by Käyser and co-workers in the 1980s, was developed mainly for elderly and high risk-patients, those with poor general health and those with accumulation of dental problems. 4. 14. Theoretical Developments for the Real-Time Description and Control of Nanoscale Systems

    Author : Miroslav Hopjan; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Green’s Function; DFT; TDDFT; Hubbard Model; Many-Body Perturbation Theory; Strongly Correlated Systems; Quantum Transport; Disorder; Ehrenfest Dynamics; Electronic Friction; Exact Diagonalization; Periodic Anderson Model; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Hopjan;

    Abstract : In this thesis we focus on improvements of the description of the electron-electron correlation effects in nonequilibrium nanosystems. We mainly focus on developments of two nonequilibrium methods, namely the formalism of Nonequilibrium Green’s Function and Time Dependent Density Functional Theory and we explore the possibility to improve existing approximations in these theories. 5. 15. On error-robust source coding with image coding applications

    Author : Tomas Andersson; Mikael Skoglund; Astrid Lundmark; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; source coding; channel coding; joint source-channel coding; multiple description coding; image coding; vector quantization; channel optimized vector quantization; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : This thesis treats the problem of source coding in situations where the encoded data is subject to errors. The typical scenario is a communication system, where source data such as speech or images should be transmitted from one point to another. A problem is that most communication systems introduce some sort of error in the transmission. READ MORE
