1. NMR studies on calcium-induced conformational transitions in calmodulin
Abstract : Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used in order to investigate the relationships between structure, dynamics and calcium binding in the intracellular regulatory protein, calmodulin. Calmodulin consists of two similar domains, each binding two calcium ions with positive cooperativity. READ MORE

2. Molecular recognition and dynamics in proteins studied by NMR
Abstract : Knowledge of dynamics in protein is very important in the description of protein function and molecular recognition. The thesis investigates protein dynamics on time-scales from milli- to sub-nanosecond, with focus on the latter, using NMR spin relaxation experiments on two proteins, the 138-residue carbohydrate recognition domain of galectin-3 (Gal3C) and the 56-residue B1 domain of bacterial protein G (PGB1). 3. Shaking the EF-Hand. Dynamics and Ion-Binding to Calmodulin and Calbindin D9k
Abstract : The work described in this thesis represents a biophysical approach, mainly using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, to investigate the impact of magnesium ions on the EF-hand calcium-binding proteins calmodulin and calbindin D9k, as well as the dynamics of these proteins at low calcium levels. The x-ray structure of magnesium-saturated calbindin D9k shows a magnesium ion in only one of the two ion binding sites. READ MORE

4. Chloromethane Complexation by Cryptophanes : Host-Guest Chemistry Investigated by NMR and Quantum Chemical Calculations
Abstract : Host–guest complexes are widely investigated because of their importance in many industrial applications. The investigation of their physico–chemical properties helps understanding the inclusion phenomenon. The hosts investigated in this work are cryptophane molecules possessing a hydrophobic cavity. 5. Exploring N-alicyclic quaternary ammonium functional polymers as hydroxide exchange membranes
Abstract : As the global power generation is shifted toward renewable and intermittent sources, the importance of fuel cells and other energy storage and conversion devices is continually increasing. However, many of these technologies are still under development and further research is necessary before they can be implemented. READ MORE
