  1. 1. Exploring Molecular Interactions : Synthesis and Studies of Clip-Shaped Molecular Hosts

    Author : Anjaneya Prasad Polavarapu; Helena Grennberg; Adolf Gogoll; Jerker Mårtensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Organic chemistry; Glycoluril clips; host-guest systems; supramolecular chemistry; complexation induced shifts; conformational restriction; NMR spectroscopy; fullerene binding; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Molecular recognition via noncovalent interactions plays a key role in many biological processes such as antigen-antibody interactions, protein folding, the bonding and catalytic transformation of substrates by enzymes, etc. Amongst these noncovalent interactions, electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions, and metal-to-ligand bonding are the most prominent. 2. 2. Synthesis of Conformationally Restricted Oligosaccharides

    Author : Michael Wilstermann; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streptococcus suis; E. coli; neoglycolipid; ganglioside-lactam; xylose; methylene acetal; sialic acid; Conformational Restriction; galabiose; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Gangliosides are sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids that often are present in increased amounts on tumor cells. Since the gangliosides are hydroxy-acids, they can form lactones. The lactones have been suspected to be more immunogenic than the open forms, but are in practise poor immunogens due to their ease of hydrolysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis of Novel Inhibitors of IdeS, a Bacterial Cysteine Protease Including Studies of Stereoselective Reductive Aminations

    Author : Kristina Berggren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cysteine protease inhibition; ; IdeS; SpeB; Papain; ; Conformational restriction; Peptidomimetics;

    Abstract : Abstract The cysteine protease IdeS is an IgG degrading enzyme secreted by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes to evade the human immune system. In this thesis several inhibitors of IdeS have been synthesized and evaluated. Such inhibitors should be highly useful when elucidating the detailed mechanism of IdeS action. READ MORE

  4. 4. Conformational Studies of Biologically Active Peptides

    Author : Björn Walse; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PapD chaperone; P pili; desmopressin; DDAVP; protein-peptide interactions; glycopeptides; peptide design; transferred NOE; molecular dynamics simulations; circular dichroism; peptide conformation; NMR spectroscopy; immunogenic glycopeptides; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this work conformational studies have been performed on peptides from four different systems in an attempt to gain knowledge about their biological function. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in combination with distance geometry and restrained molecular dynamics simulations were the methods used. 5. 5. Modulation of Molecular Properties : Host–Guest Interactions for Structural Analysis and Chemical Reactions

    Author : Sara Norrehed; Adolf Gogoll; Jerker Mårtensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; host-guest systems; conformational analysis; NMR spectroscopy; bispidines; porphyrins; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the construction, use and modulation of various host–guest systems, from small bispidines for binding of inorganic ions to bisporphyrin clips for supramolecular systems.Small flexible molecules undergo fast conformational movements when in solution. READ MORE
