  1. 11. Structure-function studies on TRIM21/Ro52, a protein involved in autoimmune diseases

    Author : Janosch Hennig; Maria Sunnerhagen; Kylie J. Walters; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Several members of the tripartite motif (TRIM) protein family are involvedin antiviral activity and immunity and have been linked to severaldiseases. TRIM21, the main object of this thesis, is involved in Sjögrensyndrome (SS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), where patientsoften have autoantibodies against different epitopes on TRIM21. 2. 12. Risk factors and comorbidity in primary Sjögren’s syndrome

    Author : Johannes Mofors; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Primary Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system targets the exocrine glands. The disease is characterized by inflammation and dysfunction of the salivary and lacrimal glands, leading to dry eyes and mouth. The etiopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases is not entirely known. 3. 13. Role of calcium in developing cellular network : Ca2+ in human fetal neural stem cells and rat neonatal cardiomyocytes

    Author : Jeongsook Park; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to study Ca2+ homeostasis and its regulation in developing heart and brain cells. Cardiomyocytes rapidly developed a fast calcium machinery, (1) to regulate cytoskeletal protein interactions to the extracellular matrix of neighboring cells through gap junctions, and (2) to induce Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), (3) to generate rapid energy supply of ATP from mitochondria. 4. 14. Pregnancy in Ro/SSA positive women

    Author : Joanna Tingström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Congenital heart block (CHB) may develop in the fetus during pregnancy in Ro/SSA positive women. It is a rare but life-threatening disease and the most serious manifestation of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE). The frequency of CHB in Ro/SSA autoantibody positive pregnancy is 1-2%, with a recurrence rate of 12-17%. READ MORE

  5. 15. Cellular and molecular factors in the pathogenesis of systemic autoimmunity and comorbidities

    Author : Margarita Ivanchenko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are systemic rheumatic autoimmune diseases having a major impact on patient’s wellbeing. Besides fatigue, pain and direct damage to exocrine glands in SS, and various target organs, such as skin, joints, kidneys and brain in SLE, these diseases confer an increased risk of lymphoma development and can cause an autoimmune condition in the foetus of pregnant patients, termed neonatal lupus.
