  1. 1. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naphthalene Sublimation Tecnhique; Antifouling paint; convective heat transfer; Roughness Function; correlation; CFD; RANS; stator channel; electric generator; Impinging Jet; Skin-Friction Drag; Rotating Disk; Ship Hull;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere. 2. 2. On optimization of natural convection flows

    Author : Clio Saglietti; Dan S. Henningson; Kurt Maute; KTH; []
    Keywords : Natural convection cooling; topology optimization; flow optimization; heat sink; conjugate heat transfer; differentially heated cavity; optimal initial disturbances; adjoint optimization;

    Abstract : Two different techniques are presented for enhancing the thermal  performance of natural convection cooled heat sinks. The physics is  described by solving the conjugate heat transfer problem with a  spectral element method. The temperature distribution is computed in  two sub-domains, whose solution is then conjugated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Design of Internal Cooling Passages: Investigation of Thermal Performance of Serpentine Passages

    Author : Waseem Siddique; Torsten Fransson; Bengt Sundén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas turbine; heat transfer; CFD; Serpentine passages; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Gas turbines are used to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy. The thermal efficiency of the gas turbine is directly related to the turbine inlet temperature. READ MORE

  4. 4. Some Mathematical Aspects of Thermo and Fluid Dynamics

    Author : Carl Fredrik Stein; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; swirling jets; vortex breakdown; conical self-similarity; Long s jet; Taylor s hypothesis; frozen turbulence hypothesis; advection velocity; conjugate heat transfer; asymptotic analysis; swirling jets;

    Abstract : This thesis contains mathematical treatments of three issues in thermo and fluid dynamics: swirling jets and vortex breakdown, Taylor's hypothesis and conjugate heat transfer. The work on swirling jets is focused on the study of the well-posedness of the conically self-similar free-vortex solutions to the Navier--Stokes equations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Partitioned methods for time-dependent thermal fluid-structure interaction

    Author : Azahar Monge; Numerisk analys; []
    Keywords : thermal FSI; Conjugate heat transfer; Domain decomposition; Time adaptivity; Coupled problems; multirate;

    Abstract : The efficient simulation of thermal interaction between fluids and structures is crucial in the design of many industrial products, e.g. turbine blades or rocket nozzles. READ MORE
