1. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability
Abstract : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening. 2. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin
Abstract : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss. 3. Fibroblast Contractility in vivo and in vitro : Effects of Prostaglandins and Potential Role for Inner Ear Fluid Homeostasis
Abstract : Fibroblasts continuously strive to organize and compact the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM). Recent data suggest that this cellular contractility controls interstitial fluid homeostasis in loose connective tissues (CT). READ MORE

4. Host Defense Properties of Collagen VI. A novel concept in connective tissue innate immunity
Abstract : Rapid and powerful host defense mechanisms are essential in order to overcome harmful actions of pathogenic bacteria. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and proteins are vital effector molecules of the fast-acting innate immune system and exist virtually in all living organisms. READ MORE

5. Mixed connective tissue disease, myositis and systemic lupus erythematosus : immunological and genetic studies in three related rheumatic autoimmune studies
Abstract : Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), polymyositis (PM)/ dermatomyositis (DM) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are chronic, rheumatic, systemic inflammatory disorders. The disorders depend on several factors of both genetic and environmental origin. READ MORE
