  1. 1. SHAKER ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

    Author : Erika Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; masonry.; paint; interpretation; Shaker architecture; wood; mortar; conservation; Second Meetinghouse; plaster; The Mount Lebanon Project; authenticity; preservation; Architectural conservation; conservation assessment; Shaker Museum and Library; NARA document; heritage values; lime; feasibility study; craftsmanship; materials analyses; intangible dimensions; Mount Lebanon Shaker Society;

    Abstract : AbstractThis work is an investigation into the state-of-the-art of architectural conservation, from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. It explores issues, methodologies, and tools applicable to heritage resource assessments - from an architectural conservators point of view - and its aim is to generate appropriate approaches, methodologies and tools to holistically assess both the tangible and intangible aspects of significant architecture from the past. 2. 2. Seed mobility and connectivity in changing rural landscapes

    Author : Alistair G. Auffret; Sara Cousins; Robin Pakeman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Conservation; Functional connectivity; Historical ecology; Human-mediated dispersal; Invasive species; Landscape Ecology; Long-distance dispersal; Restoration; Seed bank; Seed dispersal; Seed rain; Structural connectivity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The success or failure of many organisms to respond to the challenges of habitat destruction and a warming climate lies in the ability of plant species to disperse between isolated habitats or to migrate to new ranges. European semi-natural grasslands represent one of the world's most species-rich habitats at small scales, but agricultural intensification during the 20th century has meant that many plant species are left only on small fragments of former habitat. 3. 3. Application of the Fluoresecence Lidar Techniques in the Architectural Heritage

    Author : Jenny Hällström; Bebyggelsevård; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; architectural heritage; stone; brick; conservation; restoration; case studies; building investigation; lidar; fluorescence; laser; masonry;

    Abstract : The primary aim of the research project is to analyse the potential for the application of lidar and fluorescence techniques in building investigation, and also to establish a scientific remote-sensing method for surveying and analysing the historical facade that is non-destructive and can be used in-situ. The fluorescence lidar method uses point-monitoring and scanning of areas that can provide multispectral images in order to identify materials, biodeteriogens and other substances not visible to the human eye. 4. 4. Non-Invasive Monitoring of Architectural Heritage

    Author : Jenny Hällström; Bebyggelsevård; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; remote sensing; lidar; laser-induced fluorescence; documentation; hyperspectral; non invasive; non destructive; sustainable maintenance; conservation planning; monitoring; Coliseum; architectural conservation; restoration; Övedskloster; deterioration; Lateran Baptistery; stone; brick; thematic mapping; in situ; imaging; biodeteriogens;

    Abstract : The on-site documentation and examination of architectural heritage has presented challenges for traditional analysis methods in the form of, among other things, large complex structures, sites and environmental conditions. In recent years there has been growing interest in assessing progressing deterioration processes and material analysis, with an emphasis on sustainable conservation and maintenance planning. 5. 5. Unravelling Sustainability : The complex dynamics of emergent environmental governance and management systems at multiple scales

    Author : Lucas Dawson; Ingrid Stjernquist; Marine Elbakidze; Raimonds Ernsteins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Integrated adaptive environmental governance and management; Social-ecological system dynamics; Complex systems; Sustainability transitions; Sustainability strategies; Multi-level governance; Causal loop diagrams; Green Infrastructure; Landscape restoration; Habitat restoration; Biodiversity conservation; Comprehensive planning; Stakeholder participation; System thinking; Water Framework Directive; Sustainable water governance; Collaborative learning; Communities of practice; Knowledge management; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis adopts a complex systems approach to investigate the dynamic emergence of sustainable environmental governance and management systems in multiple contexts in Europe. Accelerating rates of environmental degradation across the world have called the legitimacy of previous environmental governance and management arrangements into question. READ MORE
