  1. 21. Magnetic helicity in astrophysical dynamos

    Author : Simon Candelaresi; Axel Brandenburg; Renzo Ricca; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The broad variety of ways in which magnetic helicity affects astrophysical systems, in particular dynamos, is discussed.The so-called alpha effect is responsible for the growth of large-scale magnetic fields. The conservation of magnetic helicity, however, quenches the alpha effect, in particular for high magnetic Reynolds numbers. READ MORE

  2. 22. Dynamic consequences of shape deviations in hydropower generators

    Author : Niklas Lundström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer Aided Design; Datorstödd maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Earlier measurements on hydropower generators have indicated the existence of backward whirling motion, and, also relatively large shape deviations in both the rotor and the stator. These non-symmetric geometries produce an attraction force between the rotor and the stator, called unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP). READ MORE

  3. 23. Stable High Order Finite Difference Methods for Wave Propagation and Flow Problems on Deforming Domains

    Author : Samira Nikkar; Jan Nordström; Gunilla Kreiss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : We construct stable, accurate and efficient numerical schemes for wave propagation and flow problems posed on spatial geometries that are moving, deforming, erroneously described or non-simply connected. The schemes are on Summation-by-Parts (SBP) form, combined with the Simultaneous Approximation Term (SAT) technique for imposing initial and boundary conditions. READ MORE

  4. 24. Modeling of the wet-out process in composites manufacturing

    Author : Da Wu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; process modeling; liquid composite molding; fiber preform deformation; free surface flow; porous media theory;

    Abstract : The fiber reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) are carving out a niche amid the keen market competition to replace the other material counterparts, e.g., metals. Due to the low weight and corrosion resistance, the FRPCs are wildly utilized from aviation to automobile industries; both in the sectors of civilian and defense. READ MORE

  5. 25. Influence of fractures and air bubbles on the pressure distribution embankment dams

    Author : Mats Billstein; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : In some large embankment dams unexpected pore pressure distributions within the core have been observed. As an example, the piezometer pressures in WAC Bennett Dam, Canada, which rose for about four years after the reservoir was filled, were steady for two years and subsequently declined. READ MORE
