    Abstract : This thesis consists of three distinct articles that can be read separately. Each one has been awarded a chapter of its own. The independence of these chapters should not be taken as meaning that they are unrelated. Besides belonging all to the subfield of macroeconomics, they share the common feature of being inherently economic policy oriented. READ MORE

  3. 8. Essays on Labor Supply and Adjustment Frictions

    Abstract : Labor Supply Responses and Adjustment Frictions: A Tax-Free Year in IcelandHow does labor supply respond to a temporary wage change? To answer this question, I study an unexpected and salient tax reform in Iceland in 1987 that resulted in a year free of labor income taxes, but creating only minimal income effects, offering an ideal natural experiment. I first construct a new employer-employee dataset from digitized administrative records for the population. READ MORE

  4. 9. Evaluation of physical work capacity and leg muscle fatigue during exhaustive stair ascending evacuation

    Author : Amitava Halder; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : Stair climbing; Energy expenditure; Oxygen consumption; Electromyography; Muscle fatigue;

    Abstract : AbstractPhysical exhaustion can constrain human ascending work capacity and performance during emergency evacuation on stairs. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations during two different strategies: self-preferred pace in three different public stairways in the field, and controlled pace in a laboratory on a stair machine. 5. 10. The Fight on the Flights : Emergency evacuations – human physiological performance, leg muscle activity and gait biomechanics during exhaustive stair and slope ascent

    Author : Amitava Halder; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stair climbing evacuation; Physical work capacity; Physiological constraints; Endurance; Energy expenditure; Oxygen consumption; Electromyography; Muscle fatigue; Incline gait biomechanics; Ground reaction forces; Required coefficient of friction;

    Abstract : Physical exhaustion can constrain stair ascending capacity during emergency evacuation. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations when using two different modes: 1) self-preferred pace on three different public stairways, and 2) four machine-controlled paces on a stair machine corresponding to different percentages of maximal aerobic capacity (V̇O2max).
