  1. 1. Inflation Mechanics of Hyperelastic Membranes

    Author : Amit Patil; Anders Eriksson; Arne Nordmark; Reijo Kouhia; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Membrane Mechanics; Inflation; Adhesive Contact; Instabilities; Bifurcation; Limit Point; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The applications of inflatable membrane structures are increasing rapidly in the various fields of engineering and science. The geometric, material, force and contact non-linearities complicate this subject further, which in turn increases the demand for computationally efficient methods and interpretations of counter-intuitive behaviors noted by the  scientific community. 3. 3. On efficient and adaptive modelling of friction damping in bladed disks

    Author : Mohammad Afzal; Leif Kari; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Muzio M Gola; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High cycle fatigue; Friction contact; Jacobian matrix; Shroud contact; Strip damper; Multiharmonic balance method; Contact stiffness; Cyclic symmetry; Nodal diameter; Magnetostrictive actuator; Magnetic field; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This work focuses on efficient modelling and adaptive control of friction damping in bladed disks. To efficiently simulate the friction contact, a full-3D time-discrete contact model is reformulated and an analytical expression for the Jacobian matrix is derived that reduces the computation time drastically with respect to the classical finite difference method. 4. 4. Discrete element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of lithium-ion battery electrode layers

    Author : Axel Lundkvist; Per-Lennart Larsson; Pär Jonsén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lithium-ion batteries; mechanical characterisation; simulations; contact mechanics; discrete element method; Litiumjonbatterier; mekanisk karakterisering; simuleringar; kontaktmekanik; diskret elementmetod; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics; Solid Mechanics; Hållfasthetslära;

    Abstract : Since their introduction in the late 20th century, lithium-ion batteries have become the leading battery technology for portable devices and electric vehicles due to their high energy density and rechargeability. However, the increasing demand for a longer battery life span is hindered by the fading of the battery’s charge capacity over prolonged use. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wheel-rail contact modelling in vehicle dynamics simulation

    Author : Matin Shahzamanian Sichani; Mats Berg; Roger Enblom; Elena Kabo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel-rail contact; non-elliptic contact; vehicle-track interaction; rail vehicle dynamics; rolling contact; MBS; virtual penetration; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Tribologi; The KTH Railway Group - Tribology;

    Abstract : The wheel-rail contact is at the core of all research related to vehicle-track interaction. This tiny interface governs the dynamic performance of rail vehicles through the loads it transmits and, like any high stress concentration zone, it is subjected to serious damage phenomena. READ MORE
