  1. 21. Catching Mercury : Mercury in Lake Vänern and Swedish catchments

    Author : Peter Wihlborg; Lars Hylander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; deposition; budget; sediments; retention; catchments; dating; kvicksilver; deposition; budget; retention; avrinningsområden; datering; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : Vänern och dess sediment har under 1900-talet varit en av Sveriges mest kvicksilver (Hg) kontaminerade miljöer. 47 sedimentprofiler tagna 2001 analyserades for total Hg och temporala och spatiala mönster påvisades. Av den direkta Hg tillförseln 1918-2001 återfinns c:a 30 ton i bottensedimenten. READ MORE

  2. 22. Emerging technologies for climate-neutral urban areas : An Industrial Ecology perspective

    Author : Asterios Papageorgiou; Cecilia Sundberg; Rajib Sinha; Maria Malmström; Ola Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban areas; climate neutrality; solar microgrid; biochar; Life Cycle Assessment; Material and Energy Flow Analysis; Substance Flow Analysis; Urbana områden; klimatneutralitet; solmikronät; biokol; livscykelanalys; material- och energiflödesanalys; substansflödesanalyss; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : The ever-increasing concentration of human activity in urban areas induces environmental problems beyond their boundaries on scales ranging from local to regional to global, such as resource depletion, land degradation, air and water pollution and climate change. Human-induced climate change is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest sustainability challenges of the present century and it is inextricably linked to urbanization. READ MORE

  3. 23. Treatment conditions for the removal of contaminants from road runoff

    Author : Magnus Hallberg; Gunno Renman; Jiri Marsalek; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dissolved matter; filter bed; particulate matter; sedimentation; suspended solids; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The pollutant load in road runoff is related to traffic densities and road maintenance activities. Inurbanised areas treatment of road runoff is common and often considered necessary. The pollutantsare partitioned between the particulate and dissolved matter. However, the contaminantstend to have an affinity to the particulate material. READ MORE

  4. 24. Phytostabilization of mine tailings covered with fly ash and sewage sludge

    Author : Clara Neuschütz; Maria Greger; Lena Kautsky; Anthony R. Dexter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ammonium; biosolids; cadmium; copper; energy crop; metal and nutrient leakage; nitrate; phosphate; phytoremediation; plant stress response; root exudates; zinc; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : Establishing plant communities is essential for the restoration of contaminated land. As potential cover materials, fly ash and sewage sludge can prevent formation of acid mine drainage from sulfidic mine waste. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis concerns a nuclear accident that occurred in the Thule (Pituffik) area, NW Greenland in 1968, called the Thule accident. Results are based on different analytical techniques, i.e. gamma spectrometry, alpha spectrometry, ICP-MS, SEM with EDX and different sediment models, i. READ MORE
