  1. 1. Electroremediation of contaminated soil

    University dissertation from Örebro : Örebro universitetsbibliotek

    Author : Pascal Suèr; Örebro universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrokinetic remediation; contaminated soil; mercury; heavy metals; organic compounds; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Electroremediation was applied to contaminated soils in order to study the transport of metals and organic compounds by the external electric field. The electric field caused acidic conditions near the anode, so that copper, zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, calcium and manganese were released from soil from a chlor-alkali site. READ MORE

  2. 2. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    University dissertation from Department of Biotechnology, Lund University

    Author : Erik Andersson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. READ MORE

  3. 3. Assessing Soil Functions for Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites

    University dissertation from Department of Biotechnology, Lund University

    Author : Yevheniya Volchko; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil functions; Contaminated sites soil; minimum data set; soil ecosystem services; sustainability assessment; remediation; soil quality indicators;

    Abstract : Soil contamination is a worldwide problem. Soil remediation is often carried out to reduce the risks posed by contaminants in the soil to human health and environment. Contaminant concentration is typically the only soil quality aspect maintained in remediation projects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Feasibility study of soil washing to remediate mercury contaminated soil

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Jingying Xu; Luleå tekniska universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil remediation; pH-dependentdissolution; organic matter; mobilisation; Other technology - Environmental engineering; Övriga teknikvetenskaper - Miljöteknik; Waste Science and Technology; Avfallsteknik;

    Abstract : Mercury (Hg) cannot be degraded. Therefore only two principal processes are available for the treatment of Hg-contaminated soil: (1) the separation of Hg from the soil or (2) the stabilisation of Hg within the soil. Prior to selecting a suitable treatment technique, it is necessary to have an understanding of Hg behaviour in contaminated soil, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 5. Remediation of mercury polluted soil

    University dissertation from Örebro : Örebro universitetsbibliotek

    Author : Thomas Lifvergren; Örebro universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil pollution; soil remediaion; mercury; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Mercury in contaminated soil constitutes a wide spectrum of species with highly different properties due to the chemical complexity of the element. Assessments of risk, ecological effects and removal potential require process and mobility studies. READ MORE
